Following on the success of BIS Certification implementation for footwear, India is proposing yet another big change for the industry. The country is proposing a new shoe sizing system, known as "Bha," that will be applicable to Indians, replacing the currently used UK, EU, and US sizing system. This new system is needed due to the wider feet of Indians, which often make the US, UK, and EU sizing systems somewhat misleading. The misleading sizing or lack of fully accurate sizing has resulted in potential injuries, shoe bites, and an overall poor customer experience. This, in turn, has contributed to extremely high footwear returns, especially online. It will be interesting to see how this new shoe sizing system eventually pans out, especially for global footwear giants who are already grappling with BIS implementation for the Indian market. #FootwearIndustry #ShoeSizing #IndianMarket

The Luxury Paradox: Ethics vs. Obsession The recent revelations about Dior paying suppliers €53 per handbag and retailing them for €2,600 have sparked a debate on the ethics of luxury brands. It’s clear that the pursuit of profits is a driving force behind these brands. In my view, if these companies are making such significant profits, they should channel some of their earnings towards noble causes. This would help justify the high prices and enormous margins they enjoy. On the flip side, it’s also worth noting how much consumers are obsessed with brands, often valuing the brand name over the actual product. This brand obsession fuels the luxury market, allowing these companies to maintain such high profit margins. What are your thoughts on the balance between profit and purpose in the luxury industry?
