🤔 Did you know that in Tableau you can put a Dimension in Size?   ⌛ For a long time, I never thought of that.   💭 But one day, I was testing an idea and I thought, "Man, it would be great if I didn't need to make another variable for a measure to put on size."   💣 So I dragged the dimension that was on color to size as well, and BAM! It worked.   Wait, it gets even better! If you are asked to find top 5 top selling product and you have used Limit 5 Well this seems technically right! But if you think from business perspective, there are two major issues - 1. There can more than 5 products which can be in the top 5 list. But putting a limit, you restrict to only 5. So, that’s an incomplete solution. 2. ⁠this code is not optimised for production because it will take more time to execute in a large dataset resulting in inefficient implementation. Better to use window functions like dense_rank to solve this problem. These are small but very crucial nuances that proves to be make or break in the interview. SQL as a language is simple but without right business understanding, you might not solve the right problem. Life of a Data Engineer.... Business user : Ankit can we add a filter on this dashboard. This will help us track a critical metric. me : sure this should be a quick one. Next day : I quickly opened the dashboard to find the column in the existing dashboard's data sources. -- column not found Spent a couple of hours to identify the data source and how to bring the column into the existence data pipeline which feeds the dashboard( table granularity , join condition etc..). Then comes the pipeline changes , data model changes , dashboard changes , validation/testing. Finally deploying to production and a simple email to the user that the filter has been added. A small change in the front end but a lot of work in the backend to bring that column to life. Never underestimate data engineers and data pipelines 💪 #dataengineers #datapipelines
