What makes peoples' organisations, unions, civil society and other collectives important sources of data? 1. Collectives like unions provide a platform for people to air their opinions. Some of these people might slip through the cracks during data collection simply because they are not comfortable speaking individually. 2. Collectives and unions play an important role in people's lives. In many cases, they play a big role in how people perceive the world which may or may not coincide with how the programme implementers or the programme evaluators perceive the world. This is an important perspective to incorporate during impact assessment. The second G20 Sustainable Finance Working Group urged more sub-national governments in India to take up #climate budget tagging (CBT). Our analysis highlights that only 9% of the Maharashtra state budget FY 2023-24 was high climate-relevant. With this context, we try to deliberate that mainstreaming #climatebudgettagging into the system can help governments track, monitor, and prioritize spending on climate policies and design programs that strengthen institutional climate capacities.  Given that subnational #climatefinance is often disconnected at the COP negotiations, the upcoming #COP29 needs to put this at the center stage. 'Analysing Livelihood Strategies of Landless Manual Labour Households in Rural Bihar: A Study of a North Bihar Village,' a paper by our collaborator, Mrityunjay Pandey (along with R. Vijay) has been published in The Indian Journal of Labour Economics. https://lnkd.in/gFqA77BC This paper is based on the data collected by the Foundation under its Project on Agrarian Relations in India (PARI). It explores how these households sustain themselves through local manual labour, seasonal migration, and tenant farming. Using a Livelihood Strategy Choice Model, the study reveals that household decisions on migration and cultivation are influenced significantly by factors such as indebtedness and the composition of male and female labourers.
