Should not the technology based competition continue? Why put barriers to tech availability? India need to go massive in Production and consumption to compete and make it local asap. Product Penetration to masses is dependent on per capita income which needs to increase as well, to enhance Growth. A June 2022 Hindu article states that only 16% of Indian households own all three appliances: a refrigerator, television, and washing machine. However, a report by Jayashree Nandi states that air conditioner (AC) ownership in India has tripled since 2010, reaching 24 units per 100 households. The report also states that electricity consumption for space cooling has increased 21% between 2019 and 2022, and nearly 10% of electricity demand in India now comes from cooling requirements. According to the NSS, 1.2% of rural households own ACs, while it is 12.6% in urban areas. In the bottom rural quintile, 86% of the households own a TV, 47% own a 2-wheeler, and 35% a refrigerator. #US #Department of #Commerce has imposed new tariff duties of up to #whooping 165.04%on #crystalline #silicon #photovoltaic (PV) solar imports from #China and #Taiwan. This decision was made after finding that panels were being sold too cheaply in the U.S. market. Additionally, it's worth noting that AD/CVD tariffs for U.S.-imported solar components from #Vietnam, #Malaysia, #Thailand, and #Cambodia have been paused since 2022. An informative article on Indian Chemical Industry. Fault in the Formula for India's Chemical Sector Article highlights some challenges faced by the Indian chemical industry, hindering its full potential Some of the factors are Lack of Diversification : Indian chemical companies tend to focus on producing a limited range of commodity chemicals, leading to oversupply and competition in the global market. Focus on Existing Capacities : Companies invest heavily in expanding existing capacities for established chemicals like soda ash, ethylene aniline and phenol, instead of exploring new imports more profitable chemicals. Shifting Demand : The global supply chain disruptions due to the pandemic and the Russia-Ukraine war are mentioned as factors affecting demand patterns. The Eurozone slowdown also plays a role. Recommendation: Author suggests Indian companies should move towards *downstream derivatives and specialty chemicals* with higher margins and lower competition compared to basic commodities.
