It is often said that - "If your actions create a legacy that inspire others to dream more, learn more, do more and become more, then you are an excellent leader." And one such leader who has definitely inspired me is none other than Falguni Nayar. From a ‘Lioness to a Billionairess’, today I’d like to share with you the journey of a fearless entrepreneur, and an exceptional businesswoman – Falguni Nayar. 🎯 Initial years: Born and brought up in a Gujarati business family in Mumbai, there was a strong emphasis on getting a good education. A B. Com from Sydenham College of Commerce and Economics and an MBA from Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad – she committed herself and her efforts to achieve nothing but the best. 🎯 Illustrious Career: Falguni Nayar started her corporate journey with Kotak Securities in 1993. Over the next 18 years, she wore multiple hats as her career traversed multiple cities across the globe, before returning back to India in 2001. 🎯 Treasure trove of Wisdom: In 2012, armed with a wealth of experience and insight, and the Gujarati appetite for risk-taking and enterprise, she decided to start her own venture. 🎯 The Big Idea: From her own experience, Falguni Nayar had noticed the pain points of shopping for beauty products. She set out to rectify it by starting her own business using her savings. 🎯 The Trek to the Top: From building the supply chain from scratch, to raising capital for a newly indicted e-commerce industry, to introducing Nykaa’s own product range in beauty, fashion and wellness, her journey has been an arduous, yet outstanding one. Today, Nykaa, sells 2400 brands online, as well as through 100 stores across India. 🎯 Growth of a Unicorn: Nayar took Nykaa public in November 2021, becoming India's richest self-made female entrepreneur in the process. I must admit that I have been quite impressed and inspired by her journey, her strength of character and extraordinary leadership skills. Her words, at the IIM-A Convocation 2022 have especially stayed with me: “Don't be afraid to take risks…You are blessed to be entering a world that is now increasingly risk-friendly. Spend the early years of your career taking the right risks and make some bold bets on yourself…Take on roles that put you outside of your comfort zone and challenge yourself…” Looking at her struggles and triumphs leaves one with no doubt that she practices what she preaches.
