Loyalty is a valuable trait, especially for young professionals beginning their careers. It reflects dedication, commitment, and respect for the work and the organization one serves. However, it's important to understand that loyalty should never be confused with servitude. I often tell young professionals and seafarers entering the maritime industry: "Don't let your loyalty become slavery." Loyalty is about giving your best, being dependable, and standing by your commitments. But it also requires a balance between contributing to the organization and ensuring your own growth, rights, and well-being. In some cases, blind loyalty can lead individuals to compromise their values, personal development, and even mental health. Staying in an environment that doesn't respect your boundaries, offers no growth, or takes advantage of your dedication can become a form of modern-day slavery. For seafarers, especially those new to the industry, this message is crucial. The maritime sector is demanding, and the pressures can sometimes push individuals to ignore their personal needs and rights for the sake of the company. While dedication is essential, it should never come at the expense of your safety, self-worth, or career advancement. Every professional, whether onshore or at sea, must know when to stand up for themselves, recognize toxic work environments, and be ready to pursue opportunities that foster mutual respect. True loyalty is built on a foundation of reciprocity where both the individual and the organization grow together. Always remember, while loyalty is commendable, it must never chain you to a place where you stop growing.

I recently concluded a week long visit to Kochi, India. It was a privilege to engage with various maritime industry stakeholders, including our DNV team in Cochin and the DNV India leadership team from Mumbai overseeing our maritime operations in India. My interactions with shipyard executives, shipowners, designers, and naval officers provided insights into the wide array of ships being built in Cochin and around India including some designed by local firms. The lineup of some of the vessels under construction features: ✔a range of naval vessels enhancing India’s defense capabilities, ✔versatile multi-purpose vessels for future fuel and cargo needs, ✔cutting-edge fully electric autonomous cargo vessels and pioneering zero-emission hydrogen-fueled container ships all aiding Europe’s decarbonization efforts, ✔electric ferries integral to India’s daily transportation, ✔CSOVs that will support the offshore wind sector as part of the shift to renewable energy. 👏 Witnessing India’s emergence as a prominent shipbuilding hub was truly inspiring and I am very proud that DNV is part of this journey. With the capacity constraints in other shipbuilding locations, India's shipbuilding takes an important spot in offering owners alternatives. 🚢 #DNV #Maritime #shipbuildinginIndia

This new VSA between Folk Maritime and Asyad Line is a good example of how the Red Sea crisis has created an environment wherein local players are being strengthened. The longer the crisis lasts, the more we will see the regional players get a stronger foothold which will also spill over into a post-crisis environment where the global carriers will re-enter the competitive fray in full force
