🎥 Indian film producers are turning down big-budget movies again 🎥 Because most of them have been bombing at the box office. The most recent ones being Akshay Kumar-Tiger Shroff starrer, "Bade Miya Chote Miya" (53 cr on a budget of 350 cr) and Ajay Devgan's 'Maidaan'(36 cr on a budget of 150 cr, though I did enjoy this film and it is now showing the best day-wise collections). Building hype and anticipation isn't working. And not building enough hype and anticipation, is also not working. On top of this, a star's fees aren't helping either. When things don't work at the box office, financiers and producers usually rely on selling digital and satellite rights to make up for losses. This isn't working either, because TV folks and streaming platforms are being cautious about spending too. They're noticing that these films aren't really pulling in subscribers nor getting enough viewership on the platforms. So the industry everywhere in India, seems to be scaling back again. There have even been renegotiations of movie star fees in the South. So what seems to be the best bet, as usual? *Drum roll*.... SEQUELS. Betting on audience familiarity and known IP, filmmakers are announcing more sequels. Personally, I hope we can see a rise in low to mid-budget filmmaking once again (like we did when OTT's first came into India) because that's when stories get to shine and we even get sleeper hits like '12th Fail' and 'Laapata Ladies'. Both made way more money than it cost to make them. Very good movies too. Highly recommend watching.
