🚨 #PublicationAlert We are excited to announce the launch of a first-of-its-kind framework to objectively distinguish between games of skill and games of chance. It was developed in collaboration with 𝗣𝗮𝗱𝗺𝗮 𝗦𝗵𝗿𝗶 𝗗𝗿. 𝗕𝗶𝗺𝗮𝗹 𝗥𝗼𝘆, 𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺𝗲𝗿 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗶𝗿𝗽𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗼𝗻 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗡𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗦𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗺𝗶𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻, and with the support of the 𝗔𝗹𝗹 𝗜𝗻𝗱𝗶𝗮 𝗚𝗮𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗙𝗲𝗱𝗲𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 (AIGF). Co-authored by 𝗠𝘀. 𝗞𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗶 𝗦𝗶𝗻𝗴𝗵 (𝗖𝗵𝗶𝗲𝗳 𝗼𝗳 𝗦𝘁𝗮𝗳𝗳 & 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗴𝗿𝗮𝗺𝗺𝗲 𝗠𝗮𝗻𝗮𝗴𝗲𝗿 - 𝗢𝗻𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗲 𝗚𝗮𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗴, 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗗𝗶𝗮𝗹𝗼𝗴𝘂𝗲) and 𝗞𝗮𝘇𝗶𝗺 𝗥𝗶𝘇𝘃𝗶 (𝗙𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗗𝗶𝗿𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗼𝗿, 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗗𝗶𝗮𝗹𝗼𝗴𝘂𝗲), this framework is India's first comprehensive, objective approach designed to promote fairness and transparency among all stakeholders—players, developers, and regulators. The framework offers a quantitative extension to existing jurisprudence, providing an objective method to distinguish skill-based games from chance-based games. It helps bring legal clarity by differentiating legitimate platforms from illegitimate ones, ensuring fair competition and user protection. Additionally, it establishes an industry standard that fosters trust and credibility in the rapidly growing online gaming sector. 📰 #MediaFeature A Delhi High Court case could reshape Wikipedia’s operations in India, as the Wikimedia Foundation has agreed to share user information with the court amid a defamation suit filed by ANI. While the editor’s subscriber information will be submitted in a sealed cover, this decision has raised concerns about a potential chilling effect on Wikipedia contributors, who may feel compelled to self-censor. In conversation with Scroll.in, Pranav Bhaskar Tiwari (Senior Programme Manager - Platform Regulation, Gender and Tech, The Dialogue), highlighted the risks to free expression, noting that if editors are questioned, “they might stop editing or exercise self-censorship.” He added that limiting Wikipedia’s operations could ultimately infringe on the public’s right to access information. Just as Diwali unites families and communities in celebration, our new voyages with ACTS Alliance For Cyber Trust And Safety, India —a coalition of over 15 members dedicated to creating a safer, more inclusive digital world—and the Coalition for Responsible Evolution of AI (CoRE-AI), comprising more than 30 members focused on ensuring that AI evolves in alignment with humanity’s highest values, reflect our collective pursuit of progress. Each coalition stands as a beacon of hope in the digital landscape, akin to the diya that symbolizes triumph over darkness. Together, we illuminate the path toward a safer and more ethical digital future, advancing with trust, responsibility, and integrity at our core. May this Diwali inspire us all to continue lighting the way toward a secure and empowered India. ➡ 𝗟𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗻 𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝗮𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝗖𝗼𝗥𝗘-𝗔𝗜 - https://core-ai.in/ ➡ 𝗟𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗻 𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝗮𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝗔𝗖𝗧𝗦 - https://actsindia.org/ Kazim Rizvi | Kriti Singh | Akriti Jayant | Jameela Sahiba | Saksham M. | Ayush Tripathi | Kamesh Shekar | Pranav Bhaskar Tiwari | Bhoomika Agarwal | Aman Mishra | Soham Jagtap | Anuradha Bhattacharya | Garima Saxena | Meemansa Agarwal | Ashwin Chadha | Shivam Kulshrestha | Centre for Social Research India #diwali2024 #diwali #deepawali

📰 #MediaFeature Amid a rise in hoax bomb threats against Indian airlines, the government has issued an advisory urging social media platforms like Meta and X to proactively remove misinformation impacting national security. This request challenges existing “safe harbour” protections for intermediaries, who typically only act on content flagged by authorities. With platforms now expected to define and remove such content independently, concerns are emerging over potential overreach and the accuracy of threat assessments. In conversation with Shouvik Das (Mint), Kazim Rizvi, founding director of The Dialogue, frames the advisory as a call for vigilance rather than a threat to legal immunity, highlighting its role in reinforcing content moderation responsibilities. Could this advisory set the groundwork for future regulations on big tech and national security? Is this the start of a larger regulatory shift for big tech in India? What does this mean for the future of digital responsibility and compliance? ➡ 𝗥𝗲𝗮𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗹𝗲𝘁𝗲 𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗹𝗲 𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲: https://lnkd.in/g_uqnmxs #airlines #meta #x #twitter #safeharbour #nationalsecurity #contentmoderation #meity
