SIDBI, as a Development Financial Institution (DFI), has been at the forefront of greening India's enterprise ecosystem. With the recent approval of US$ 215.6 million by the Green Climate Fund (GCF) for the Financing Mitigation and Adaptation Projects (FMAP) for Indian MSMEs, SIDBI is set to enhance its efforts. The programme aims to support the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in India to adopt low emission and climate resilient technologies, thereby contributing to the Net Zero targets of the country. The FMAP program allocates US$ 15.6 million for capacity building and US$ 200 million for concessional finance, aiming to offer 10,000 loans, reduce GHG emissions by 35.3 million tonnes, and benefit over 10.8 million individuals. SIDBI’s approach promotes new technologies among MSMEs, reinforcing inclusive climate action and sustainable development in India. Set up on April 2, 1990 under an Act of Indian Parliament as a principal financial institution for: -- Promotion -- Financing and -- Development of industries in the MSME sector and -- Co-ordinating the functions of other institutions engaged in similar activities. Provision and Charter: SIDBI was established on April 2, 1990. The Charter establishing it, The Small Industries Development Bank of India Act, 1989 envisaged SIDBI to be "the principal financial institution for the promotion, financing and development of industry in the small-scale sector and to co-ordinate the functions of the institutions engaged in the promotion, financing or developing industry in the small-scale sector and for matters connected therewith or incidental thereto". Business Strategy of SIDBI: The business strategy of SIDBI is to address the financial and non-financial gaps in the MSME ecosystem.
