In the rugged, high-altitude terrains of Ladakh, Charay grass, a native fodder species, once thrived naturally due to abundant groundwater and consistent rainfall. This grass played a crucial role in sustaining the region’s livestock, growing across the landscape without much human intervention. However, the impacts of climate change have significantly altered the local environment of Ladakh, leading to a drastic decline in rainfall and snowfall. As water resources dwindled, the once-abundant Charay grass began to disappear, endangering both the Himalayan ecosystem and the livelihoods dependent on it. SankalpTaru's targeted ecological restoration efforts, including the reintroduction of native species and strategic irrigation practices, have contributed to the recovery of overall groundwater levels. This has fostered favorable conditions for the gradual resurgence of Charay grass, aiding in the restoration of native biodiversity. Here’s our September Spotlight on SDG 5: Achieving Gender Equality. As an organization working in the field of agroforestry and agriculture, our focus is on Indicator 5.a.1, which calls for reforms to ensure women have equal rights to economic resources. In our mission to make India green, we at SankalpTaru proudly walk alongside #WomenFarmers at every step of the journey. While gender norms persist, the women farmers we support are defying expectations, earning more, owning land, and leading the way in sustainable agriculture. They are producing tonnes of fruits, reaping the rewards of their hard work. We're turning the invisible workforce of women farmers into visible achievers by promoting inclusion and empowering them with the skills and resources they need to succeed, leading towards a sustainable, prosperous future. At SankalpTaru, we’re not just planting trees, we’re planting hope—because empowering women means empowering the future of agriculture in India. Here are a few glimpses of our inspiring women farmers who have proven that, when given equal opportunities, they can achieve financial independence and contribute to both rural and social development—reflecting our commitment to SDG 5. Nethravathi, a dedicated farmer from Byagadehalli village in Chikmagalur, Karnataka, spent years battling the hardships of farming groundnuts and Raagi. Groundnuts, though valuable, required a large amount of water, something the erratic rainfall patterns could no longer provide. As a result, her harvests dwindled. On the other hand, Raagi, while more resilient, demanded high labor costs that ate into her already slim profits. Despite her hard work, Nethravathi found it difficult to make ends meet. Her fortunes began to change when she was introduced to a more sustainable and profitable alternative, pomegranate farming. SankalpTaru’s foresters planted pomegranate saplings on her land, helping her transition to a crop that required less water and offered higher returns. #TreePlanting #PlantTrees #Reforestation #ForestConservation #GreenInitiative #ClimateAction #Sustainability #SDG #EcoFriendly #CSR #SustainableFarming #ESG #GreenFuture #RuralEmpowerment #SustainableAgriculture #Agroecology #WomenInAgriculture #Afforestation #Biodiversity

Read about the bird below : Amidst the lush greenery of our Narnaul Community Forest, the cheerful sounds of chirping fill the air, with one bird, in particular, stealing the spotlight, the Baya bird, also known as the weaver bird, celebrated worldwide for its intricately woven nests. Baya birds, renowned for their exquisite craftsmanship, work tirelessly to build these hanging nests, which dangle from the sturdy branches like tiny, woven lanterns. Their nests are crafted from strips of grass, palm fibers, and leaves, hanging securely in place. It’s only the male Baya that creates this delicate structure, hoping to impress a potential mate with his hard work and skill. Once finished, the female Baya carefully inspects the nest, ensuring it is sturdy and safe for raising their young. #Wildlife #BayaBirds #WeaverBird #Biodiversity #NatureConservation #FloraAndFauna #Narnaul #EnvironmentalAwareness #NatureLovers #birds #bird_brilliance #birdstagrams #weaverbird #birdlovers #birdwatching #birdphotography #wildlifephotography #spotted

Here’s how the growth of eucalyptus affects nearby groundwater tables due to its high water consumption. Extensive Root Systems: Eucalyptus trees have deep and expansive root systems, with taproots that can extend up to 30 meters, allowing them to access groundwater reserves that are far deeper than most other plants. High Water Uptake: These trees consume a large amount of water to support their growth, often referred to as "thirsty" trees. This high uptake of water from the soil reduces the availability of groundwater, leading to the depletion of local water tables. Impact on Nearby Ecosystem: When eucalyptus dominates an area, it can lower the water table to levels that become inaccessible to other plants, especially those with shallower root systems, further disrupting the local ecosystem and reducing water availability for agriculture and nearby communities. In areas where water scarcity is already an issue, eucalyptus can significantly exacerbate the problem. #MissionH20 #Rainwaterhavesting #Water #WaterShortage #Eucalyptus

From barren to blooming! 🌳 Dak village, once dry and lifeless, is now a thriving green ecosystem through sustainable afforestation and solar-powered drip irrigation. 🌳
A Transformation Story Beneath the Aravallis..! Dak village, once a barren expanse overrun by thorny Babul bushes, sat at the foot of the majestic Aravalli hills, facing dwindling water sources and disappearing greenery. The parched land deterred villagers from venturing in. That’s when SankalpTaru Foundation stepped in, determined to restore the area through sustainable afforestation. By implementing solar-powered drip irrigation, 10,000 water-efficient trees were planted, now blooming and drawing both birds and visitors. The landscape is now dotted with shady, fruit-bearing and medicinal trees. Through collective community efforts and sustainable practices, Dak village has transformed into a flourishing ecosystem with beautiful scenery and grazing fields, becoming a source of pride and prosperity for the region. SankalpTaru Foundation calls upon visionary corporates to collaborate and lead the way in sustainability through CSR initiatives that restore nature and empower communities. #Sustainability #GreenRevival #DakVillage #CSRImpact #EcoRestoration #CommunityDevelopment #ClimateAction #Afforestation #Biodiversity #NatureConservation #WaterConservation #Reforestation #RenewableEnergy #CorporateResponsibility #GreenFuture #PartnerForChange #SolarPower
