Did you know that a Saft battery held a Guinness World Record? 🥇 Let's go back to 2003 in the city of Fairbanks, Alaska, where we installed an impressive energy storage system capable of supplying electricity to 90,000 people in case of an outage of the city’s diesel backup generators. The battery installations were recognized by Guinness World Records as the world's most powerful battery in 2005. In a region where winter temperatures can drop below -50°C, they were designed to provide up to 25 MW of grid power for 15 minutes, the time it took for the city's diesel backup generators to restart. ⚡️🔋 Since coming online, the Fairbanks energy storage system reduced the number of power outages for residents by more than 60%. Discover how Saft made its first trip to the moon a few years ago!🌙 🚀 In 2003, the European Space Agency - ESA sent SMART-1 (Small Missions for Advanced Research in Technology 1) into lunar orbit to study the lunar landscape and learn more about its composition. It orbited for three years before returning home in 2006. The satellite needed power for this expedition, so Saft supplied five lithium-ion cells to power ionic thrusters and the electric propulsion engine every three or four days. This was a real challenge given the budget and size constraints! 🛰 🔍Discover the full story: https://lnkd.in/eW-q4hFd #WeEnergizeTheWorld Photo: © ESA–J. Huart
