Indian EV sector is gearing up to expand and the push from the Government is evident. To fulfill the production capacities, the upskilling and re-skilling of people across all sectors is required. According to the 'SIAM EV Skill Gap Study' report in order to achieve 100 per cent localisation of EV components, India needs to add 30,000 EV-ready workers per year till 2030, up from a current rate of 15,000 per year.
India's public electric vehicle charging stations multiplied significantly from 1,800 in February 2022 to 16,347 by March 2024. However, with 50 million EVs expected by 2030, about 1.32 million chargers will be needed, necessitating 400,000 annual installations. Government initiatives and industry efforts are crucial to meet this growing demand.

Buildings or complexes whose requisitioned load is 250 kilowatts (kW) or more and whose built-up area is more than 5,000 sq. m can have no less than two electric vehicle charging points, according to a new clause in the standard operating procedures (SOPs) for EV charging stations in commercial and residential buildings, complexes and multi-storey buildings in metropolitan and urban areas. The Karnataka Electricity Regulatory Commission (KERC) rolled out the SOPs on July 30. The SOPs come after several resident welfare associations (RWA), owners of multi-storey buildings and other consumers repeatedly approached the commission about the practical problems that they face while installing EV charging stations and obtaining EV charging connections from electricity supply companies (escoms).

However, with the recent waiver of customs duties on lithium-ion batteries in the Union Budget for 2024, there is a possibility that the prices of electric cars in India will see some decline. During the announcement of the 2024 Budget, India's Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman declared a complete waiver of customs duties on 25 crucial earth minerals, including lithium, copper, and cobalt. This will directly benefit the electric vehicle industry in India, as the prices of these vehicles are expected to decline.
