Pratham takes a significant step towards integrating gender across its programs, people and policies with a three-day intensive workshop with the senior leadership in the organisation. Our Co-founder, Farida Lambay kicked off the workshop, led by our newly-formed Gender Team, in collaboration with Human Resources and Organization Effectiveness teams. It was a fun-filled workshop with interactive, insightful sessions that blended theory with real-life reflections, success stories and thoughtful conversations about confronting internalised biases. A shout-out to Ritambhara (she/her/hers) Mehta, Ankita Malik and Nitika Salwan from Breakthrough Trust for sharing their experiences of DEIB (Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Belonging) in their organisation! Here’s a snapshot of our participants concluding a collaborative day, working together to improve our strategies, build our capacities and ensure Pratham empowers its teams to create an equitable work environment for all—one that extends into the communities we strive to empower. A heartfelt thank you to our donor Echidna Giving for making this initiative possible! . . . . Kanchan’s life took a new turn when she discovered Pratham’s creative approach to learning. Even as a trained teacher, she found Pratham’s learning activities, which used household items, uniquely engaging. Kanchan explored these creative learning methods further. Her daughter’s progress soon inspired other mothers in the community to engage with her, leading Kanchan to form a mothers' group that continues to grow. Pratham’s Early Years program focuses on the holistic development of children and builds strong foundational literacy and numeracy skills by involving mothers, Anganwadi workers, and school teachers to support the children. Support Pratham in enabling mothers like Kanchan. Together, we can make a difference! #ShuruaatAapse 𝗗𝗼𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗻𝗼𝘄: https://lnkd.in/gSDbVZiq

    Gender Lead | Education

Excited to present Pratham's work in Gender and Early Childhood Education in the panel discussion on “Integrating gender equality and inclusion in early learning practices", organised by India Partnership for Early Learning (IPEL) as a part of their "Visioning Workshop on Gender Responsive Early Learning Practices". A very enriching panel discussion with Abha Rani (Officer, Bihar Education Service), Chandra Mohan Prosad (Lecturer, DIET Sheikhpura), Dr. Papia Raj (Associate Professor, Social Sciences, IIT Patna), Jaya Mishra (Training Officer, ICDS) and moderated by Seema Rajput (Technical Director, Policy and Advocacy, IPEL). The panel discussion emphasized the need to engage men and boys in conversations around gender equality, recognizing their role in shaping inclusive attitudes. It highlighted the importance of addressing gendered language (such as using male pronouns to refer to all children), which begins in early socialization. Pre-service teacher training, particularly through state education cadre, was identified as crucial for integrating a gender perspective in education. Continuous research is necessary to understand diverse contexts and evaluate outcomes. While contextualization is key, exposing students to various identities, cultures, and religions through education is also vital. The panel stressed that focusing on equity leads to equality, and community engagement, especially with parents, is essential in bridging the gender gap in early years education.
