Nutan, 40, lives with her husband and two children in Gondia district, where she works as a farm laborer alongside her husband. While this seasonal work provides income for the family, Nutan always aspired to secure a continuous source of income. As a member of a self-help group in her village, Nutan came across PayNearby's Digital Naari initiative through a local community group and joined the program. Since joining, she has been providing cash withdrawal and account opening services in Mohadi village, serving over 250 families. Especially during DBT and subsidy releases, farmers and beneficiaries come to withdraw cash as the closest bank is 15 km away. She is committed to taking banking to every household and has also opened five bank accounts in a single day. Nutan supports her husband during the farming season, and in her spare time, she dispenses banking services in her area. She also aims to provide gold loan services through PayNearby, as there is a demand during the farming season. Becoming financially independent has boosted her morale and confidence. Through the initiative, 650 more women like Nutan in Gondia and Chandrapur districts are a testament to the impact that initiatives like PayNearby's Digital Naari can have on empowering women. Hema Saroj, a 35-year-old single mother of two daughters, comes from a remote area in Azamgarh, Uttar Pradesh. After losing her husband suddenly to an accident, Hema was left to take care of her family without much external support. A homemaker till then, who had very little experience of going out on her own, the challenge seemed unsurmountable. But, in her was a strong determination to provide a stable life and education for her two young daughters. Hema sought an alternative source of income that allowed her to stay at home, take care of her young family, and at the same time provide for their financial well-being. The Uttar Pradesh State Rural Livelihood Mission (UP SRLM) BC Sakhi program, run by PayNearby, provided her with the perfect opportunity. After getting trained on the financial and digital aspects of the program through local trainers and the project management unit, Hema ensured that she utilised all the marketing support handed to her and prominently displayed them at her home entrance and important landmarks in her village. Slowly, she started getting recognized as the Banking Didi of her area and started dispensing multiple financial and digital services, including ATM services, bank account opening, collecting EMIs of loans, rail ticket booking and more. Her diligence and willing to serve her community and family has ensured that in the last two years, she has facilitated banking services totaling more than ₹8 crore in her community. Today, Hema is a happy mother of two, confidently ensuring her daughters are able to continue their education and create a better future for themselves. Like Hema, there are 7500 other women in Uttar Pradesh, across 9 districts who are benefitting from the PayNearby UPSRLM BC Sakhi program.
