📖 The India Room at the GIIN Impact Forum 2024: A Full House of Insight & Impact The India Room at The Global Impact Investing Network (GIIN) Impact Forum 2024 was a resounding success, with a full house of over 25 Global Limited Partner (LP) organizations and 28 Indian General Partner (GP) organizations and Ecosystem Players supporting us to showcase India at its best, joining us for an engaging and insightful session. A heartfelt thanks to the GIIN team for their exceptional support in making this possible. The session began with GIRISH AIVALLI, CEO of the Impact Investors Council (IIC), setting the stage by outlining the vast opportunities within India's impact sectors, with a particular emphasis on climate tech and sustainable finance. His remarks provided a clear and compelling vision of India's potential as a global leader in impact investing. Of particular importance had been the impact investing data and statistics presented, which was lauded by the LPs as they often have trouble getting access to such authentic figures. Shilpa Kumar, Partner at Omidyar Network India and Executive Council Member at IIC, delivered the keynote address, where she underscored the need for scalable, inclusive financial solutions to address India’s unique development challenges. Nirav Khambhati, Partner at The Blended Finance Company, spoke about the blended finance landscape in India, discussing how innovative financial structures are unlocking larger pools of capital for high-impact sectors. Mark Kahn, Managing Partner at Omnivore, then took the stage to showcase the pioneering work they are doing in agri-tech, transforming India’s agricultural sector with cutting-edge technologies in exactly 45 seconds :) The session concluded with an engaging open dialogue, sportingly moderated by Mark, between LPs and GPs, who discussed several critical issues. A key point of discussion was the need for robust impact measurement frameworks to enhance accountability and transparency. Participants also emphasized the importance of expanding blended finance structures to de-risk investments and bring in more capital for high-impact sectors. There was a consensus on the need for technical assistance to support early-stage enterprises, as well as the necessity of crowding in private capital, given the current capital constraints in the sector. Other points included the need for cross-border collaboration and knowledge-sharing to scale impactful solutions effectively. IIC's 9th India Room effort was extremely successful, and we will continue to bring such platforms together for our members and the India impact industry! We sincerely hope to continue our collaboration with the The Global Impact Investing Network (GIIN) team and look forward to more opportunities to strengthen the global impact investment community. A special thanks to our patrons who supported our efforts: Omidyar Network India, The Blended Finance Company and Omnivore Sapna Shah Amit Bouri

Value For Women Ltd.'s Dr. Silvia Emili, PhD and Trina Roy were in Dubai last week to officially kick off the We Fund Climate Immersive Series on the sidelines of GITEX GLOBAL Largest Tech & Startup Show in the World 2024. Climate finance has not sufficiently tapped into women entrepreneurs' potential to drive solutions for climate action. We Fund Climate, the #VC initiative of IFC - International Finance Corporation’s flagship program She Wins Climate, aims to change that by partnering with #investors to expand opportunities for women entrepreneurs in the #greeneconomy. The Climate Immersive Program brings together 10 fund managers from emerging markets, and equips these climate investors to apply a gender lens to their investment approaches. 💡Here's a glimpse of some of the questions we explored in our time together: 🔹How can investments supporting climate mitigation and adaptation engage women in different roles of women as consumers, workers, leaders, users and innovators of climate solutions? 🔹How can more women be brought into decision-making - as partners/investors, or as part of investment committees to influence the allocation of capital to climate change? 🔹How do VC fund managers better measure gender and climate outcomes? Where do the two meet? 🔹 How can greater interest and momentum be built among institutional investors? We're excited to continue the program online, and support the cohort in developing their own tailored Gender Smart Climate Commitment and Action Plans! Moustafa S. The innovative She Wins Climate initiative, introduced by IFC - International Finance Corporation at COP28 UAE, brought together climate change concerns and gender-lens investing, with Sanskriti Kapoor and Mark Kahn among the enthusiastic participants. Climate change disproportionately affects vulnerable communities, and women are often on the frontlines of these impacts. Yet, despite their pivotal role, women-led businesses in climate tech receive only a fraction of VC funding—just 7% in Emerging Markets. We must shift the narrative and focus on solutions addressing gender inequality and climate action. Through We Fund Climate, we are doing just that. This initiative prioritises investing in women leading the fight against climate change. By embedding a gender lens into VC fund management, we are not only driving capital to women-led ventures but also enabling innovative climate solutions that benefit everyone—clean energy, sustainable agriculture, and more. Women-led startups are in a unique position to create scalable, impactful solutions for the climate crisis, and we must ensure they have the resources to thrive. The discussions with fund managers and climate leaders reaffirmed that empowering women is critical to achieving meaningful climate resilience. At the intersection of climate and gender, we have a unique opportunity to drive systemic change. Let’s continue to push for a future where women-led ventures lead the charge against the climate crisis, driving both environmental impact and gender equity. Other session partners included Nam Tran, Alina Truhina, Sonia Weymuller, Lola Fernandez Flores, Aakash Shah, M. Irfan Sidik, Timothy Rann, and Semi Hakim. Shout-out to the amazing organizers and speakers: Abdullah Jefri, Sammar Essmat, Moustafa S., Franziska Deininger, Silvia Emili, PhD, Trina Roy, Anissa Kanoun, Hanh Nam Nguyen, and Carey Bohjanen.
