  • Hariyali Teej, also known as Shrawan Teej, is a major festival celebrated in many parts of India, especially in the northern states. The day is observed in many forms, but mostly it is about cheer, fun, worship, and the celebration of union. Hariyali Teej falls during the month of Sawan, and is dedicated to the worship of Mata Parvati and Lord Shiva. It is believed that on Hariyali Teej, Mata Parvati was reunited with Lord Shiva after a long period of penance and devotion. According to legends, Mata Parvati performed intense meditation and was in deep ‘dhyaan’ for many lifetimes to win Lord Shiva as her husband. While initially Lord Shiva was dejected because of losing Mata Sati, Maa Parvati’s devotion impressed him, and he finally accepted her as his consort. This reunion is said to be a symbol of the union of Shiva and Shakti, the divine feminine power, and Hariyali Teej celebrates this divine union.
