JSBF is pleased to share that Dr. Rohith Jyothish, Assistant Professor at Jindal School of International Affairs (JSIA) delivered a talk on the Nobel Prize winning work of the economists, Daron Acemoglu, James Robinson, and Simon Johnson (AJR) on the contribution of institutions to economic growth. Dr. Jyothish introduced the audience to the existing debates in the literature around institutions and highlighted the importance of dialogue among economists, sociologists, and political scientists and critical engagement with each other's work to understand the role of State and Society in shaping the long run economic growth. The talk was followed by an enthusiastic discussion among faculty, doctoral students and undergraduate students. The event is organized by the Economics and Finance for Society Initiative (EFSI) of the Jindal School of Banking and Finance (JSBF) on 29 October 2024 at JGU campus. #ASEFInnoLab5 delegation to Shanghai! 🎉 I had the honor to be part of a 50-member delegation from 21 countries deliberating on "The Role of Universities in Governance of AI" developed during the #ASEFInnoLab5's online program on AI in Education. We deliberated on universities role of AI in Governance, AI in Sustainability and AI in Education. The weeklong workshop and brainstorming session will result in three white papers to be published in February 2025. I was also part of the panel discussion to drive home some bold actions that Universities can take in promoting AI in Education. Energetic discussion with Thomas Leoni, Francesco Sanasi (高云帆) Lafifa Jamal Vanessa Camilleri Balazs Horvath The team deliberated a lot on #AIEthics and what it means to bring about humanistic transformation to education at universities. I am incredibly grateful to have been selected to mentor two teams and to have had the opportunity to join the delegation to Fudan University, visiting China’s Minimax, the equivalent to OpenAI. The Economics and Finance for Society Initiative (EFSI) and Arthaniti successfully organized the panel discussion on 'Challenges faced in Teaching and Learning Microeconomics at the Undergraduate Level'. The Economics faculty from different schools of JGU joined by Dr. Devangana Jha from Delhi University contemplated the Microeconomics curriculum, pedagogies, assessment structure and the necessity to customize modules and examples to introduce economics to students from different disciplines such as commerce, law, business, journalism, international affairs, public policy etc. They assessed strengths and weaknesses of public and private university structures and different terms of flexibility they offer to faculty and students. Three key points emphasized by the panel are: 1) It is important to instill economic thinking to beginners in economics by introducing them to different schools of economic thought rather than teaching only standard neoclassical microeconomics. 2) The lack of good textbooks and reading materials written by Indian authors for Indian learners making Microeconomics relevant to the Indian context needs greater attention. 3) We need customized mathematics for economics books that can go hand in hand with introductory courses to help students in building their basics in mathematics and easier interpretation of graphs. The Economics and Finance Society Initiative (EFSI) and Arthaniti - The Economics Society of JGU are jointly organizing a panel discussion to highlight the challenges faced in teaching and learning Microeconomics at the undergraduate level in Indian Universities. Congratulations to Mr. Divyam Gautam and Mr. Gaurav Narasimha for their remarkable victory in the state round of the RBI90 quiz held today in Chandigarh! 🎉 In this round, Around 5500 teams competed from Haryana and Chandigarh out of which only 90 teams qualified for this regional round and from which our team O.P. The distinguished lecture by Dr. Dayanand Pandey, Professor & Dean, Jindal School of Banking & Finance, was an insightful exploration into the Challenges and Evolution of Risk Management in Banks. Dr. Pandey eloquently discussed the evolving landscape of risk management within the banking sector, emphasizing the significant role played by global regulatory institutions like the Bank for International Settlements (BIS) and the frameworks developed under Basel accords. He further spoke about the transition from traditional risk mitigation strategies to modern, data-driven approaches and how global events like the financial crisis have shaped current policies in Banking Sector.
