Today would have been his 275th birthday. 🎂 Poet, advocate, politician, researcher - Johann Wolfgang von Goethe (1749-1832) was active in various fields. In the Goethe Laboratory at Friedrich Schiller University Jena everything now revolves around his scientific interests in geology and mineralogy, anatomy and botany. In #Jena, he was instrumental in establishing the Botanical Garden and provided evidence for the intermaxillary bone. The laboratory with its exciting exhibition has found its home in the Botanical Garden's Inspector's House, which was also once the home of the famous poet and is located right next to the ginkgo tree he planted, now known as the Goethe ginkgo. 🌿 Jenoptik has supported the remodelling and exhibition of the Goethe Laboratory with a donation and two optical elements. These elements emphasize the reference to the Goethe Laboratory and the title of the exhibition "The Theory of Design is the Theory of Transformation" in an optical and artistic way with lighting effects on and in the building. Back then, we were one of the first companies to talk about the values we need as an internationally operating company to be successful in #Thuringia and #Jena. Since then, many others have joined, and we have become part of the grassroots democratic movement Weltoffenes Thüringen. 📣 At the moment you can find our #BleibOffen #StayOpen billboards all over Thuringia, in many small towns and villages. We're congratulating our apprentices on their successful graduation! Our CEO Dr. Stefan Traeger and VP Global HR Olaf Drillisch-Saathoff presented 19 young skilled workers from our locations in Jena, Dresden and Villingen-Schwenningen with their certificates. All of them successfully graduated in the past few months and have of course been offered a job. An additional highlight was the opening of a time capsule that each of them wrote at the start of the training program. We are very proud of them and that we were able to accompany them on their career path from the very beginning. #MoreLight #Ausbildung #career

We were happy to share insights into regional trends with around 20 journalists, mainly from abroad. Our CEO Dr. Stefan Traeger welcomed them to our HQs as part of a media day jointly organized by the city of #Jena and Jenoptik. The day's program included talks with the Lord Mayor of Jena Dr. Thomas Nitzsche, representatives of district administration, of JenaWirtschaft - Wirtschaftsförderung Jena and JenaKultur as well as with other entrepreneurs and the founders of the Weltoffenes Thüringen initiative, which promotes open-mindedness in Thuringia. The discussions were mainly related to the development in Eastern Germany and Thuringia, our #BleibOffen (stay open) campaign and the economic situation as well as the impending shortage of skilled workers. Exciting news! The primary instrument for the Nancy Grace Roman Space Telescope, of which critical components were provided by Jenoptik and other collaborators, has arrived at NASA Goddard.   This instrument, called the Wide Field Instrument, is a sophisticated camera that will survey the cosmos from the outskirts of our solar system all the way out to the edge of the observable universe which will help scientists address some of the biggest cosmic mysteries and provide a new understanding of how our universe works. Designed to study dark energy, dark matter, and exoplanets, Roman will open new avenues of cosmic exploration and allow astronomers to conduct research that would take hundreds of years using other telescopes.
