    Where in France do you think the Paris Olympics' surfing events are being held? In Tahiti - over 15,000 Kilometers from the Olympic Village. Surprised? Don't be. This is part of the IOC's model of ‘développement durable” (Sustainable development) for organizing the Games. The Paris 2024 Olympics is setting a historic precedent by striving to be the first-ever Olympics to reduce carbon emissions by 50% throughout the games. The move is in line with the Paris Agreement on climate change. 95% of the Games will be played using existing and temporary venues to minimize construction emissions. The players will be served a low-carbon diet by sourcing 80% of all ingredients and food locally and reducing meat consumption. Competition venues are connected by a robust transportation network facilitating eco-friendly mobility while implementing a zero-waste policy, which includes extensive recycling and composting programs across all venues. With less than 72 hours left till Paris 2024 kicks off, it is going to be a historic Games in more ways than one. 🙌🏼✨ #Olympics2024

    The recent Copa America broke viewership records, making it the most-watched soccer event in U.S. English-language TV history. Does this shift indicate growing interest in soccer in the U.S.? Again? Since hosting the 1994 World Cup, soccer has been seen as America's next big sport, but there have been a few false dawns. This year though even as Lionel Messi's presence attracted immense interest, marking a 44% increase from 2016 (when it was last held in the US), the rest of the tournament saw big audiences too. ⚽️ This surge in viewership is not solely due to Messi but also reflects a growing broader audience for such tournaments (even as the home team did poorly - the US was knocked out in the group stages) making the future look bright again. More American brands are likely to be interested as anticipation grows for more top-tier soccer events, including the expanded Club World Cup set to be played in the U.S. in 2025 and 2029, and of course the 2026 World Cup, set to be co-hosted by US, Mexico, and Canada. ⚽️ Will the U.S. soccer market continue to thrive without the need for a superstar draw like Messi?     The Olympic Games are around the corner and there are some words that might throw you off a bit or force you to google the meaning, but don't worry about it. We've got you! Repechage, our #WordWednesday of the week is one such word you'll be hearing quite often during the Games in Paris. Generally associated with combat sports such as wrestling, judo or taekwondo, starting from the Paris Olympics, repechage rounds will also be organised for track events from 200m to 1500m (including hurdles). So don't you worry about your favourite athlete losing a race/bout/match early. They might just have a shot through repechage! #Paris2024 #Olympics

    Congratulations to Carlos Alcaraz and Barbora Krejcikova for clinching the Wimbledon 2024 singles titles! 🏆🎾 Incidentally IBM’s analytics had Alcaraz as a 61-39% favourite against Djokovic in the final. IBM has been an integral part of The Championships for 35 years now, underlining a trend of tech giants making massive investments in sports sponsorships since it enables them to become more experiential. 👍 In the early years, IBM's role primarily focused on providing basic IT support for Wimbledon as a tech partner. In 2000, they launched Wimbledon’s official website, offering fans real-time scores, player statistics, and match schedules. As the decade progressed, the focus shifted towards enhancing the digital experience for fans. In 2012, IBM introduced Slamtracker, revolutionizing tennis with real-time match statistics and predictive analysis. They have developed dedicated software applications designed for 100% accuracy, capturing 2.7 million data points every year. (Fun fact: One of those who interned inputting such real time data from courtside into IBM computers - Henry Patten - won the men’s doubles title this year with Will Jennings!) 🙌🏽✨ In recent years, the partnership has emphasized sustainability. IBM has helped Wimbledon in its efforts to reduce its carbon footprint by optimizing energy usage and streamlining operations using AI. This year, IBM introduced the "Catch Me Up" feature, enabling users to personalize it by adding their favorite players. This feature includes an analysis of recent performance and likelihood-to-win predictions, extending coverage to lesser-known players, especially those in junior or wheelchair events.
