We are thrilled to announce the successful completion of the Student-Alumni Mentorship Fair 2024, held on September 29th. This impactful event, organized by IIT Delhi Alumni Relations, the IIT Delhi Endowment Fund, and the IIT Delhi Alumni Relations Student Team, connected over 300 students with 30 alumni mentors. The event provided personalized mentorship to 3rd and 4th-year students, guiding them through internship and placement preparation. It covered diverse sectors such as IT, civil services, consulting, and more, with general sessions for broader student support. Students gained valuable insights into navigating their careers, enhancing decision-making, mental wellbeing, and exploring different options. We received great feedback, and students benefitted immensely from the experience. A huge thank you to all the alumni who made this initiative a success! Kapil Bharati an IIT Delhi alum from the esteemed Karakoram Hostel, completed his B.Tech in 2000 from the Mechanical Engineering Department. Kapil began his career at SapientNitro, where he spent six years learning how a new organization operates. He left the company as a Senior Manager. He tested his entrepreneurial skills by co-founding 11Rupees, a venture he left after four months. Undeterred, he made a second attempt by launching Contify Market, a competitive intelligence software for all business functions, where he led the technical team for two years. Kapil has worked with Fortune 100 clients across various industries, including e-commerce, logistics, financial services, and telecom. His entrepreneurial experience includes founding two startups—Contify and 11Rupees. In 2011, Kapil Bharati, alongside Sahil Barua, Mohit Tandon, Bhavesh Manglani, and Suraj Saharan, co-founded Delhivery. As Head of Technology at Delhivery, Kapil revolutionized the logistics space by providing end-to-end solutions to build the operating system for commerce, combining world-class infrastructure, top-tier logistics operations, and cutting-edge engineering and technology. Kapil Bharati has proven himself a first-generation entrepreneur with over 11 years of experience in IT, laying the foundation for aspiring startups in India. Meet Vidit Aatrey, an Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi alumnus from the esteemed Jwalamukhi Hostel, who completed his B.Tech in Electrical Engineering. Before co-founding Meesho in 2015, Vidit gained valuable experience in roles such as Assistant Manager at ITC Limited from June 2012 to June 2015 and Associate Manager at InMobi. Vidit’s entrepreneurial journey began with Meesho, initially launched as FashNear, a platform that has since transformed into a leading social commerce giant. Under his visionary leadership, Meesho has revolutionized online shopping and empowered countless small businesses and entrepreneurs. Vidit’s contributions have earned him significant recognition, including spots on the Entrepreneurs 35 Under 35 list and Fast Company’s India’s Most Innovative Companies for 2020. He received the MSNBC Young Turk Startup of the Year award from Finance Minister Smt. Nirmala Sitharaman and was named one of Fortune’s 40 Under 40 for 2021. Meet Sachin Bansal , an Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi Delhi alumnus from Jwalamukhi Hostel who completed his B.Tech in Computer Science Engineering in 2005. Fascinated by the potential of e-commerce from his exposure at Techspan Company and later at Amazon India, Sachin co-founded Flipkart in 2007 with his friend and colleague Binny Bansal. To your surprise, Flipkart—the e-commerce giant valued at $35 billion, serving over 100 million users with 80 million products across 80 categories—started in a small two-bedroom apartment in Bangalore, with Sachin delivering the first few orders himself on his scooter. Flipkart is known for introducing cash-on-delivery to the Indian market, revolutionizing e-commerce in India. In 2020, Sachin co-founded Navi, a financial services company transforming financial services in India. Interesting Tidbit: Navi has disbursed loans worth over ₹4,000 crores and insured more than 2 million people in just two years. Meet Deepinder Goyal, an Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi alumnus from Shivalik Hostel who completed his B.Tech and M.Tech in Mathematics and Computing in 2005. Starting at Bain & Company, he identified a common problem by creating an intranet portal for cafeteria menus, inspiring the launch of Foodiebay.com. In 2008, Foodiebay.com evolved into Zomato, now a global brand in 24 countries. Deepinder’s vision led Zomato to re-enter the e-commerce grocery market in July 2021, culminating in the acquisition of Blinkit. Today, Deepinder Goyal is one of India's newest members of the billionaire club, and his journey is an inspiration to all of us. His success is a testament to the problem-solving and innovative mindset that is nurtured at IIT Delhi.
