𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐣𝐞𝐜𝐭 𝐚𝐧𝐧𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐜𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭! HOK and DIALOG are leading the design for Scotia Place, the new home of the Calgary Flames. The arena's design plays on the theme of "fire and ice" while celebrating the Indigenous history and culture of Alberta. The project team worked on the building's planning and design with an advisory group that included representatives from the Treaty 7 Nations and the Métis Nation of Alberta, Region 3. Scotia Place celebrates the area as a place for all and will be a landmark attraction in Calgary’s emerging Culture Entertainment District. More than a building, the 10-acre city block is designed for community and connection and includes a community ice rink, plazas, restaurants, the Calgary Flames team store and gathering space for the new downtown neighborhood. We are excited to be part of this amazing project with DIALOG, City of Calgary, Calgary Sports and Entertainment Corporation, CAA ICON and many others. We are excited to work with Aaron Fenton and BXP, owner of Embarcadero Center, on early visioning to revitalize San Francisco’s Embarcadero Plaza. The reimagining of the prominently located, yet underutilized, plaza would bring new life and energy to downtown San Francisco and further connect residents, office workers and others to the waterfront. As HOK’s Brian Jencek told San Francisco Chronicle urban design critic John King: “We want to explore the question of what this space could be.” Read more of King’s coverage about the early plans to remake Embarcadero Plaza: https://bit.ly/3YasQT4 Renderings: HOK BXP

Congratulations to our Design Principal Peter Ruggiero for being honored in Newcity’s Design 50 list of leading design figures in Chicago! Discover more about Peter from the feature below, and view some of his iconic designs, including LaGuardia Airport’s New Terminal B, Chicago O’Hare International Airport’s Terminal 5 Expansion, and the Kentucky International Convention Center. Peter’s favorite question is “Why?” The world is full of specialists, and when he collaborates with them, Ruggiero likes to question assumptions on what each project should be. “I’ve spent close to forty years trying to be a generalist and specialize in nothing,” Ruggiero says. He likes big challenges, like transportation structures and public buildings that contribute to making cities work. “I want to see how we can invest in infrastructure and make it handsome and interesting.” https://lnkd.in/gXdzHdrS 📸 Jeff Goldberg Photography LaGuardia Gateway Partners, Nic LeHoux Photography, and Christopher Payne Photography

Thrilled to see HOK’s design for Msheireb Downtown Doha Phase 4 on Archello! The design of Msheireb Downtown Doha Phase 4 is a harmonious blend of Qatar's rich heritage and dynamic future. Inspired by the traditional Qatari architecture, the project integrates sustainable practices with the latest smart city innovations. The thoughtful orientation and massing of buildings provide shade and channel breezes, creating comfortable pedestrian spaces. The project creates a vibrant, mixed-use neighborhood that prioritizes human connection and sustainability. It also features the densest concentration of LEED Gold certified buildings globally.
