Speakers recognized young evaluators as a pool of capacity, agents of norm-shifting, enthusiasm, decolonizing evaluation, and breaking stereotypes. Representatives from the governments of India and Uganda shared their initiatives for engaging young professionals. Challenges were also discussed, including the knowledge hierarchy and the complex path of becoming an evaluator, which demands both essential skill sets and practical experience, as well as the multifaceted identities of evaluators as professionals. #YouthEngagement #Evaluation #Innovation #Mentorship #ECOI #LadyIrwinCollege #CapacityBuilding #Eval4Action United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) EvalYouth Global Network EvalYouth India EvalYouth Asia Archna Kumar Ruchi Kaushik (Gaur) Suchi Gaur Aanchal Mittal Abinash Dash Development Monitoring & Evaluation Office, NITI Aayog Caitlin Blaser Mapitsa Rajib Nandi Rashmi Agrawal Marco Segone

Beyond thrilled to be part of the panel discussion titled, 'Gender Equality Social Equity and Inclusivity in Development'. Moumita Sarkar and I reflected on our work in the SWAYAM project - and shared our learnings, challenges, and mitigation strategies in understanding the socio-cultural context of different geographies and the complexities in measuring a change in gender norms. Lastly, we discussed our approaches (and attempts) to adapt culturally responsive evaluation frameworks. It was a tad bit intimidating sitting next to seasoned researchers and practitioners whose work I have admired from a distance, but absolutely thrilling, and overwhelming to share the stage with Sushmita Mukherjee and Sudipta Mondal. The conversation on qualitative research, grounded theory, inductive coding, and codebooks reinforced my belief and the importance of the intensive and iterative work that qualitative researchers do (which is sometimes exhaustive, overwhelming, and isolating - but worth it!). Radha Chellappa and Sona Mitra for being the best cheerleaders, supporters, and motivators. And the IWWAGE team - The Best Lot! Special thanks to the Evaluation Community of India for the incredible opportunity. #Evalfest
IWWAGE- an initiative of LEAD at Krea University and PCI India held a joint panel discussion titled, 'Gender Equality Social Equity and Inclusivity in Development' at the #EvalFest2024 organised by Evaluation Community of India The panelists were Moumita Sarkar, co-lead (SWAYAM), Surabhi Awasthi (Senior Research Associate) from IWWAGE and Sudipta Mondal (Senior Director Monitoring, Learning and Evaluation), Sushmita Mukherjee (Director - Gender and Adolescent Girls) from PCI. The session was moderated by Radha Chellappa, Executive Director, IWWAGE. The team shared their experiences from the SWAYAM Project and reflected on innovative measures like adopting mixed method research helps in bridging nuanced understanding of gender and how it operates in the field. The team also unpacked the inputs of the program and how generating evidence at multiple junctures of the project helped in linking evidence to policy. Lastly, they reflected on the importance of understanding the sociocultural context of the community and captured the complexities in measuring gender norms. 🌟 Reflecting on EvalFest 2024: A Convergence of Global Minds 🌟 As we wrap up the vibrant and insightful Closing Ceremony of EvalFest 2024, we're left inspired and motivated by the depth of discussions and the shared commitment towards transformative change and responsive evaluation practice. Among the keynote speakers at the closing ceremony were Ashwani K. Muthoo, the Director General of the Independent Evaluation Office - BRICS New Development Bank, Ada Ocampo, the President of the International Development Evaluation Association (IDEAS), and Godfrey Mashamba, the Deputy Director General of the South African Ministry of Planning. A highlight was the guest speaker, Sanyukta Samaddar, whose dynamic and committed approach as a civil service officer from India illuminated the path of localizing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) at the district level in India. Her emphasis on developing a robust evaluation policy and building capacities across all stakeholder levels resonated deeply with our mission. Mr. Ashwani Muthoo's insights on the essential convergence of knowledge and capacity across the globe, Ada Ocampo's reminder of the value of diverse knowledge systems and roles of evaluation associations, and Dr. Godfrey Mashamba's call for stronger learning collaboration among global south communities underline a collective vision. A vision where evaluation not only fosters inclusive development but empowers voices from every corner of the world. A special note of appreciation for Rajib Nandi, the moderator, who highlighted the Evaluation Community of India's commitment to leveraging EvalFest 2024's learnings into actionable knowledge products. This gesture not only celebrates the event's success but also paves the way for ongoing impact. As we move forward, let's carry the spirit of EvalFest 2024 with us - a spirit of collaboration, innovation, and transformation. Together, we're not just evaluating; we're changing the world.
