Our CEO Nathan Schultz presented Global Student Prize Winner Ángela Elena Olazarán Laureano with her award this morning in New York City during UN General Assembly Week!

We are thrilled to announce that Ángela Elena Olazarán Laureano has been named the winner of the 2024 Chegg.org Global Student Prize! Chosen from 11K nominees across 176 countries for developing an AI medical assistant that could transform healthcare in remote areas, the 17-year-old prodigy from Mexico received her $100,000 award today in New York City, NY during UN General Assembly Week. From a young age, Ángela showed an unwavering commitment to STEM advocacy for youth and girls across Latin America. She led her robotics club to success and developed Ixtlilton, a prize-winning AI-powered virtual medical assistant that can currently diagnose 21 diseases based on a series of questions. Designed with local medics during COVID-19, Ixtlilton aims to aid people living in remote areas or long distances from a medical center by helping them determine whether they require medical care. We overcame timezone differences and distance to have a robust conversation facilitated by our Director of Policy and Impact, Marshall Anthony Jr., Ph.D. Our finalists are navigating an array of issues important to students and communities worldwide in innovative ways, including access to healthcare, mentorship, STEM education, environmentalism and more.
