About us
CARE has been working in India for over 70 years, focusing on ending poverty and social injustice . We do this through well-planned and comprehensive programmes in health, education, livelihoods and disaster preparedness and response. Our overall goal is the empowerment of women and girls from poor and marginalised communities leading to improvement in their lives and livelihoods. We are a member of the CARE International Confederation working in 100 countries for a world where all people live in dignity and security. Why Women & Girls We choose to focus on women and girls because women are disproportionately affected by poverty and discrimination; we aim to ensure gender equality through the realisation of full rights and entitlements. Further, our experience shows us that, when equipped with the proper resources, women have the power to help whole families and entire communities overcome poverty.

On 10th August, 2023, Evonik India launched its CSR STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering & Mathematics) project at Malwani area in Mumbai. This project is an initiative under Grow Beyond Yourself program which was launched in Evonik Asia Pacific region, in line with our commitment to diversity and youth development. In India this project will aim to support over 200 girl students in the age group of 11 -15 years in underprivileged communities for one year. The initiative emphasizes on three thinking skills – Scientific inquiry, Design thinking and Computational thinking through a systematic STEM education curriculum. 7 Innovator labs have been set up equipped with age and grade-appropriate learning resources. Student-driven projects will be organized to improve students' science, mathematics, and digital literacy. Evonik is a leading voice in science and technology, and we understand the importance of inculcating this at an early age. We thank our partners - CARE India, Indo-German Chamber of Commerce and EY for their support in identifying and building the significance of this project. #Evonik #EvonikIndia #GrowBeyondYourself #STEM #STEMWomen #STEMEducation #SpecialtyChemicals #LeadingBeyondChemistry #FollowUsBeyond

Our hearts go out to the communities grappling with water scarcity. While a part of society may be blessed with abundance, there are many communities that face the brunt of environmental degradation, every single day. This #WorldWaterWeek, we are raising awareness about the struggles of marginalised communities, who bear the burden of water scarcity and don’t have much to fall back upon. Join us in providing the basics of life to such communities and help them thrive. 🤝 #CAREIndia #WaterConservation #Upliftment

We hosted an Informal Consultation on Multilingual Education at our Delhi office. The objective of the initiative was to deliberate on opportunities and challenges in the field of multilingual education (MLE) in India and to develop informal consultative mechanisms of like-minded organizations and individuals for advocacy and actions for promoting MLE. The participants observed that despite NEP 2020 emphasizing the significance of MLE, there is an inadequate understanding of how multilingual teaching and learning approaches can be designed and implemented at scale. . Other challenges in this realm include the shortage of teachers who understand and speak children’s primary languages, the lack of children’s learning materials in these languages and inadequate strategies for helping children learn unfamiliar languages and so on. It called on the stakeholders, including NGOs, government agencies, foundations and academicians, to thoroughly examine the challenges surrounding MLE and collectively take decisive actions to enhance the educational experience for children who are not proficient in the language of instruction used in schools as well as share best practices and showcase innovations in the field.
