Earlier this week, Neelesh Agrawal from our team shared his insights on ‘ESG, Climate Change & Building Future Ready Organizations’ at the esteemed Indian Institute of Management Bangalore campus! The program brought together seasoned professionals from diverse sectors, who engaged in rich discussions about how nature markets could be leveraged internally within their organisations. A big congratulations to the faculty and participants for an impactful session!
As institutional capital increasingly finds its way to fund Nature-based Solutions (NbS) projects and their underlying ecosystem services, we increasingly see trends of infrastructure-like financing designed to deliver funding at the same pace as the design, growth and operate phases of a natural capital project requires, borrowing from our experience at Calculus Carbon. The article below is a study of the evolution of natural capital from the pre-industrial era to its recent comeback to emerge as a full-fledged asset class. We conclude that the institutional capital eyeing this upcoming asset class needs to be flexible enough to be able to adapt as its underlying mechanics evolve, but also deep to be able to follow through, and scale an NbS project through to its long term economic life. #NaturalCapital #NaturebasedSolutions #NatureAsInfrastructure #InfrastructureFinancing #InstitutionalCapital #NatureFinancing #COP16

🌱Coconut Agroforestry Project: A Case Study in Climate Impact and Community Upliftment 🌍 Lionheart Farms Philippines Corporation is leading a transformative agroforestry initiative in Palawan, Philippines, turning underutilized grasslands into productive land with over 600,000 coconut palms already planted and 150,000 more planned by 2030. Each coconut palm absorbs 600 kg of CO₂ per year, setting the project up to sequester 450,000 tons of CO₂ annually at maturity, with an adjusted sustainable removal of over 300,000 tons of CO₂. This project not only combats climate change but also creates jobs for rural communities, with 30% of roles held by women and significant involvement from Indigenous Peoples. Aligning with the Philippines' National Greening Program, Lionheart’s sustainable practices contribute to carbon neutrality, biodiversity, and economic stability. 🤝 Impact in Action: By prioritizing community engagement and environmental stewardship, the project is setting new standards in sustainable farming and climate action.

🌍Navigating the Rising Cost and Scarcity of Carbon Credits: A Strategic Roadmap for Businesses 📈 As demand for high-quality carbon credits surges, prices are expected to increase significantly, with up to 50% of credits projected to exceed US$125 per tonne by 2035. This shift highlights the need for businesses to adapt quickly to evolving carbon markets, where low-cost credits are becoming scarce, and removal-based credits are taking a central role. To position themselves effectively, companies can follow a five-step approach: 1️⃣ Assess current and future market context. 2️⃣ Review long-term strategy to ensure resilience. 3️⃣ Identify tipping points & emerging opportunities. 4️⃣ Define distinctive value propositions for 2030-2035. 5️⃣ Act now to create options, manage risks, & gain a competitive edge. 🌱The path to net zero is complex and demands proactive, forward-thinking strategies.
