#InsideOut is one of my favourite movies and when I watched it recently, it left me reflecting on the complexities of human emotions and their profound impact on our professional as well as personal lives. This movie, like its predecessor, beautifully illustrates the intricate interplay of emotions that drive our behaviours, decisions and interactions and most importantly how we feel. As I watched, I couldn’t help but draw parallels between the emotional journey portrayed on screen and the dynamics we navigate in the workplace. Here’s my two bits: 1. Embrace complexity: Don’t put all of your problems at the 'Back of the Mind'. We sometimes tend to bury our worries, issues and challenges deep down, only to have them resurface unexpectedly. Process your thoughts and feelings in the moment. Whether through conversation or introspection, take the time to acknowledge your emotions and try to manage them effectively. 2. Joy and Sadness - The Power of Balance: Suppressing emotions and keeping them in ‘The Vault’ can lead to burnout. Instead, create an emotion map at work to understand and address your emotional reactions healthily. Don’t lock your feelings away; embrace and balance them for a healthier work life. 3. Your ‘Sense of Self’ is your Strength: Inside Out reminds us of the importance of authenticity. Don’t change yourself just to fit in. Identify and showcase your unique strengths at work. Celebrate what makes you uniquely valuable! Having said that, one must also reflect on your ‘Sense of Self’ to identify scopes of evolvement to strengthen it further 4. 'Anxiety' is real but manageable: Focus your energy on what you can control. Embrace uncertainty as an opportunity for growth, allowing you to navigate complexities with confidence and clarity. Overthinking could also lead to anxiety. Be aware of your thoughts and consciously work through them to maintain control of your ‘emotional console’. 5. Let the 'Stream of Consciousness' flow: You're allowed to feel all your feelings. Embrace the full spectrum of your emotions. Schedule short mindfulness breaks, practice deep breathing and take moments for yourself, leading to better focus and productivity. I’d love to hear your thoughts too.
