The Government of India has consistently demonstrated its commitment to advancing the country's renewable energy (RE) sector. This commitment has set high expectations for the Union Budget 2024, with all of us eagerly anticipating measures that enhance the commercial viability of project development. 𝗥𝗲𝗮𝗹𝗶𝗴𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘁𝗮𝘅 𝘀𝘆𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗺 Government’s intervention to reduce the tax burden on RE projects is crucial. Rationalizing the Goods and Services Tax (GST) across all components and rationalizing the Basic Customs Duty (BCD) on solar modules/cells can collectively lower costs, improve cash flow, enhance project viability, simplify compliance, and foster market growth. These measures will make RE projects more attractive and feasible, driving the widespread adoption of renewable energy. 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗺𝗼𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗕𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘆 𝗘𝗻𝗲𝗿𝗴𝘆 𝗦𝘁𝗼𝗿𝗮𝗴𝗲 𝗦𝘆𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗺𝘀 (𝗕𝗘𝗦𝗦) The government’s ongoing work on the National Energy Storage Mission aims to create a robust policy framework for promoting energy storage solutions, making this the right time to push for these fiscal measures. A reliable power supply and stable grid are critical as India transitions to a greener future. With the expanding market and rising power demand, this is the opportune moment to implement concessional duties, subsidies, and other incentives for BESS systems enabling a larger deployment of such technologies even at the consumption levels. 𝗘𝗻𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗠𝗦𝗠𝗘 𝗖𝗿𝗲𝗱𝗶𝘁 𝗔𝗰𝗰𝗲𝘀𝘀 Another crucial step for this budget is to enhance credit access for Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) through targeted lending by financial institutions. MSMEs are a key demand sector, particularly for rooftop and residential solar projects. Integrating them more comprehensively into the financial system will significantly boost capacity additions and drive growth within the solar sector. 𝗜𝗻𝘃𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗶𝗻 𝗘𝘃𝗮𝗰𝘂𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗜𝗻𝗳𝗿𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗿𝘂𝗰𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲 Increasing budget allocations for evacuation infrastructure is also vital. Efficient transmission and distribution of renewable energy will not only bolster our green energy capacity but also support the nation’s broader economic and environmental objectives. 𝗙𝗶𝘀𝗰𝗮𝗹 & 𝗠𝗼𝗻𝗲𝘁𝗮𝗿𝘆 𝗶𝗻𝗰𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲𝘀 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗗𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗯𝘂𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝗚𝗿𝗲𝗲𝗻 𝗛𝘆𝗱𝗿𝗼𝗴𝗲𝗻 The industry has made significant inroads in the adoption of green electrons. It is time to encourage migration to Green Molecules. Green Hydrogen is an exciting option to promote transition to green molecules thereby reducing the carbon emission. We urge the Government to introduce allocations in form of Fiscal & Monetary incentives on consumption of green hydrogen in the existing manufacturing processes. By implementing these measures, the government will play a pivotal role in ensuring that India achieves its ambitious renewable energy targets by 2030, paving the way for a sustainable and prosperous future. #UnionBudget2024
