Hello everyone, Let's follow up on the last post on why BMS Integration with Drone Batteries Is Critically Important, B.    Battery Life A BMS plays a pivotal role in extending the life of drone batteries by:   a.    Optimizing Battery Conditions: It continuously monitors key parameters such as State of Charge (SOC) and State of Health (SOH), ensuring the battery operates within optimal conditions to minimize capacity loss. b.    Regulating Charge Cycles: BMS regulates charge cycles to prevent deep discharges and excessive wear on the battery, contributing to a longer lifespan. c.     Accurate and real-time data: A BMS provides accurate and real-time data on the battery's State of Charge (SOC), enabling drone operators to Make Informed Decisions. By knowing the exact energy levels, operators can better plan flight times and recharging, reducing the risk of unexpected power loss during operations. d.    Fault Detection: The BMS acts as an early warning system, alerting operators to potential issues such as uneven cell levels or faulty connections. This capability helps to Prevent Failures By catching abnormalities early, the BMS reduces the risk of catastrophic failures during flight, enhancing overall safety and reliability. Hello everyone, Let's understand, Why BMS Integration with Drone Batteries Is Critically Important.   A.    Safety Battery Management Systems (BMS) are crucial for ensuring the safe and reliable operation of drone batteries during flight. Here's why:   a.    Overcharge Protection: BMS monitors the voltage of each cell and cuts off the charging current to prevent overcharging, which could lead to battery failure or fire hazards. b.    Over-discharge Protection: BMS prevents batteries from discharging below critical levels, avoiding damage and prolonging battery life. c.     Temperature Monitoring: The BMS constantly monitors the battery's temperature during charging and operation, preventing overheating that could damage the cells. d.    Short Circuit Protection: BMS includes safety features to detect and respond to short circuits, quickly shutting off the power to prevent damage. Let's understand more in the next post! Hello everyone, Let's continue our talk about the failures of inefficient battery management for drones, Drone operators face significant challenges when dealing with inefficient battery management. Here are some other key issues :   5. Reduced Battery Life Improper battery management often results in a shortened battery lifespan due to excessive charge-discharge cycles, deep discharges, or overcharging. This not only leads to more frequent battery replacements but also contributes to higher operating costs.   6. Erratic Drone Performance When batteries are not managed properly, drone performance can become erratic. This can manifest as sudden power drops, loss of control, or unreliable responses to commands. In critical applications, this can compromise mission success and safety.   7. Inability to Optimize Operations Without reliable data on battery status, operators cannot optimize their flight plans or predict when recharges are needed. This lack of predictability can make it challenging to manage fleets effectively and schedule operations efficiently.   8. Maintenance Challenges An inefficient battery management system can complicate maintenance and troubleshooting. Without accurate monitoring and alerts, identifying faulty cells or connections can be more challenging, leading to longer diagnostic times and increased repair costs. Hello everyone, Let's talk about the failures of inefficient battery management for drones, Drone operators face significant challenges when dealing with inefficient battery management. Here are some key issues :   1. Reduced Flight Time Inefficient battery management can lead to shortened flight times. Without proper monitoring, batteries may not be fully charged, or their capacity could degrade more quickly, limiting operational range and effectiveness.   2. Unexpected Battery Failure If the battery's State of Charge (SOC) and State of Health (SOH) aren't accurately monitored, drones risk sudden power loss, leading to potential crashes or disruptions in operations. This can be particularly problematic in critical missions, such as search and rescue, surveillance, or deliveries.   3. Increased Downtime Inconsistent battery performance can result in longer charging times or unexpected downtime for maintenance and repairs. This can impact operation timelines and increase operational costs due to idle drones and staff.   4. Safety Risks Inefficient battery management can lead to safety hazards such as overcharging, over-discharging, or overheating. These conditions increase the risk of battery fires or explosions, posing a threat to personnel, property, and the environment. Let's discuss this more in our next post! With a goal to enable inclusive & equitable access to artificial intelligence (AI) & robotics solutions, India’s first AI & robotics technology park called ARTPARK was set up at the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) in 2020 in Bengaluru. It aims to develop world-class critical technologies for robotics & autonomous systems, reduce India’s import footprint in them, & catalyse AI for India’s big challenges, said Raghu Dharmaraju, chief executive of ARTPARK. It also spearheads skilling programmes to train professionals in the field of next generation advanced manufacturing for robotics & autonomous technologies by 2025. ARTPARK is a non-profit organisation promoted by the IISc to encourage innovations in AI & robotics by bringing together startups, industry, researchers, nonprofits, & the government ecosystem. It is implementing innovation initiatives in industrial automation, mobility, agriculture, & healthcare. It has been sanctioned seed funding of Rs 230 crore from the central government’s department of science and technology & the IT BT Department, Karnataka. ARTPARK has three types of programmes: innovations/startups, platforms, & skilling. Platforms at ARTPARK include physical facilities like ARTgarage – an advanced manufacturing & testing facility – & digital platforms for One Health & Climate, Health Data & AI, & Language Data & AI. ARTgarage, also supported by the Ministry Of Heavy Industries, spans over 75,000 square feet & is in HMT colony in Bengaluru. It is a manufacturing & testing facility for robotics & autonomous systems with infrastructure to develop autonomous intelligent systems for industrial, social & defence purposes. It includes manufacturing equipment, assembling & fabrication capabilities, & advanced testing & validation set up for ground & air applications. With the aim of fuelling indigenous technology development, this ecosystem supports startups, MSMEs & large organisations, said Anurag Srivastava, chief operating officer of ARTPARK. One Health & Climate platform enables population-scale, data-driven disease surveillance & decision making like what we saw during Covid. Its live Dengue dashboard is a monitoring & analytics platform, which provides sub-district level risk predictions, & is embedded in the public health infrastructure of Karnataka & piloted in Pune region, so far impacting the lives of more than 80 million people, said Dr Bhaskar Rajakumar, programme director - health Initiatives at ARTPARK. ARTPARK is creating language data & AI that understands all Indians. Language is a barrier that billions must transcend to get access to the benefits of the internet, said Prasanta Ghosh, assistant professor, department of electrical engineering at IISc, who leads the language data & AI initiative at ARTPARK which includes SYSPIN, RESPIN & Vaani.
