Legislative changes designed to support the Marine Infrastructure Management Act 2016 (MIMA) will be brought before Tynwald for approval this month. An initial piece of MIMA secondary legislation was approved by Tynwald in July and a news release was issued at the time to publicise what this means: https://lnkd.in/ggJjwNJ4 Modernising this framework reflects a commitment within Our Island Plan under Energy Security to ‘provide certainty for the overall management in optimising the economic benefit of our seas’. There are additional economic and environmental benefits to be realised from such projects as offshore renewable energy generation including not only the rent from the seabed but also money generated, contributing to the Island's tax and income streams. So what’s being brought to Tynwald this time? The Marine Infrastructure (Consenting Process) Regulations 2024 set out largely procedural requirements to support an application up to the point of when a decision is made: https://lnkd.in/g_Eb3xb8 The Marine Infrastructure Management Act 2016 (Appointed Day) (No.2) Order 2024 sets out the relevant sections of the Act that are required to be enacted at this time to allow for the secondary legislation to be made: https://lnkd.in/gBED9wTs The Marine Infrastructure Management Act 2016 (Amendment) Order 2024 seeks to amend and update the list of consenting regimes: https://lnkd.in/gbjs8S9g With the assistance of external legal advisors, the Department of Infrastructure continues to progress with the remaining required secondary legislation under MIMA and intends to bring that to future sittings of Tynwald upon completion.

🔥 Calling all retired on-call Firefighters! 🚒 Work is underway to include on-call firefighters in the Government Unified Pension Scheme (GUS), and the Department of Home Affairs (DHA) wants to hear from any retired firefighters, who were employed on or after 30 September 2007, who want to join. Any on-call firefighter (at any rank), or Whole-time firefighter who retired at either Sub Officer, Leading Firefighter, or firefighter, is eligible and they are asked to get in touch if they would like to be considered. The GUS is a contributory scheme which means members who are eligible will have to make the relevant contributions. The current rate of personal contributions is 13.5% of the relevant earnings. Government will also add their retrospective contributions in line with the scheme rules. 🔥 If you think you are eligible, and are interested in being included, please email [email protected], or call 647326. People in the Isle of Man are being invited to share their views on a proposal to ban disposable vapes that contain plastic. The Department of Environment, Food and Agriculture has today launched a six week consultation on its plan to outlaw the sale and distribution of the products that have a short life span and, as well as encouraging youth vaping, are harmful to the environment. Clare Barber MHK, Minister for Environment, Food and Agriculture, said: "Not only are precious resources wasted in their manufacture and disposal, but far too many are being carelessly discarded - littering our communities and polluting our Biosphere. "Banning this product is a clear and obvious way that we can take responsibility in shaping an environment we can be proud of in line with the Island Plan." It is estimated that around five million disposable vapes are thrown away each week in the UK, which is equivalent to the lithium batteries of 5,000 electric vehicles each year. 🔗 To get involved and share your views visit https://ow.ly/qa5e50TyHGr before 11 November. Find out more 👉 https://ow.ly/6WaX50TyHGt The UK Government has already announced a ban on the products in England and the Scottish and Welsh Governments have also confirmed they will follow suit.
