A Bright Future Ahead for Frontier Portfolio Company AgriLight!  AGRILIGHT Energy, a Start AgriTech Cohort II Graduate, is an innovative Israeli #agrivoltaic #startup that optimizes solar radiation to meet #agricultural crop needs while maximizing #electricity production.  Recently, the startup launched its first pilot with the support of Ramat Negev Research Center. This agrivoltaic project utilizes patented two-axis #solar #technology on a rail system to move solar panels horizontally above a vineyard in the #Negev Desert.   After the #pilot, scheduled until August 2024, proves successful, AgriLight plans to establish commercial projects in Israel and Spain next year, along with more pilots in Europe, the United States, and Africa.  “Agri-Light's solution addresses the conflict of balancing the necessary sunlight for crops and solar panels,” said AgriLight CEO, Udi Wild. “It enables more comfortable plant growth conditions – reducing the temperature in extreme and prolonged weather conditions, protecting against hail and frost, and saving irrigation water due to reduced evaporation."  We are proud to support AgriLight’s innovative approach to regenerative agriculture and plant shading. Tech Transfer – Have You Tried It? Bridging the gap between research and commercial application is never simple, but it’s an essential leap for innovation, especially in the #foodtech sector that relies on deeptech and biology that takes time to develop. The journey often starts with tough negotiations over licensing agreements. Universities do an excellent job protecting their IP and ensuring their future incomes, and continues with the clash of cultures - academia thrives on exploration and discovery, while the industry needs fast, market-ready solutions. The timelines and priorities don’t always align. Medium Well Technological Solutions began as a spin-off from a concept that emerged at the The Hebrew University of Jerusalem . Like many ventures starting from academia, our path has been complex. But despite the challenges and the physical distance between our labs (initially 200 km apart and then down to 100 km…), we’ve managed to operate as a cohesive team, supporting each other every step of the way. The most important lessons we learned for positive collaboration: 📢 Effective Communication: we kept regular and transparent communication to bridge the gaps and align goals. 🔬 Leverage University Resources: we enjoyed access to advanced analytics, state-of-the-art labs, and experience across various fields. These resources can significantly boost a lean startup, especially in a sector as technically demanding as foodtech. 📈 Plan for Scale Early: We considered scalability and commercialization from the very beginning, and always focused on finding the right moment to transition from research to product development.

I had the incredible opportunity to give a lecture to the IEC - Israel Electric Corporation חברת החשמל לישראל בע"מ. (In the presence of the CEO, chairman of the board, and other senior officials from all divisions). This was part of an annual event hosted by the company's innovation unit, held in an auditorium at the company's headquarters, and broadcast live to thousands of employees. We discussed: - The impact of artificial intelligence on various sectors worldwide. - The latest innovations emerging globally. - Practical Ai tools to enhance daily operations. To make things even more exciting, we created a song live on stage, using AI for both the lyrics and melody! It was a fantastic ice-breaker and a fun demonstration of AI's creative potential. It was an amazing experience sharing insights and engaging with such a forward-thinking organization. P.S. Ever tried creating a song with AI? Israel plans new agricultural waste treatment facility in areas devastated on October 7 Tel Aviv [Israel], May 13 (ANI/TPS): Israel is set to add a new natural waste treatment facility in the south of the country, specifically in the areas near Gaza. To that end, its Ministry of Environmental Protection, as part of its “Green South” initiative, together with the Western Negev Cluster invited entrepreneurs to submit applications for financial support for the establishment of a facility for the treatment of vegetable agricultural waste in the Takuma (Rebirth) region of towns and farms near the border of Gaza. The Takuma area was devastated in the Hamas October 7 terrorist massacre and this is just one of many plans for the rehabilitation of the region. The selected firm will receive a grant of up to 40 million Shekels ($10.8 million), but no more than 40% of the investment cost. The Western Negev is the Osem (grain storehouse) of the State of Israel, and as a result, huge amounts of agricultural waste produced there pile up without care and create a hazard. According to the government’s decisions on strengthening the authorities of the Takuma region, the Western Negev Eshkol prepared for the Eshkol and Sdot Negev regional councils a plan for handling the agricultural waste generated in their area. The program is fully funded by the Ministry of Environmental Protection. As part of the program for the treatment of agricultural waste, additional components are promoted, such as terminal facilities for the treatment of agricultural plastic or nylon waste, pruning, pruning management system, subsidies to farmers for the treatment of clean pruning, information, enforcement and more. The live demonstration of “product market fit” at the recent Precognize workshop with the ICL team in Nesher was truly inspiring. As a former executive in a multinational manufacturing organization, I understand the immense challenge of securing extensive buy-in to implement and scale a tech product across diverse sites. The strong leadership from Lior Frimet and Marina Lisitsin, combined with the tangible value of Precognize’s SamGuard product and the integration of user feedback into future versions, clearly demonstrates a powerful synergy between these organizations.
