Researchers at Tel Aviv University's Faculty of Engineering have developed an electromagnetic tag that is placed on the wings of hostile unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), making the aircraft easier to identify and track. The research team was led by Ph.D. students Omer Tzidki and Dmytro Vovchuk at the lab of Prof. Pavel Ginzburg, which specializes in developing new radar and wireless communication technologies to address current and future challenges. “The simplest things often work best,” Ginzburg said. “This project leverages fundamental physical principles to reliably and accurately classify drones. The process of identifying any drone using radar is quite complex, so achieving the capability to identify specific drones is a significant accomplishment of which we are very proud.” #drones #droneschallenges #researchers #electromagnetictag #israelinnovation #hostiledrones #uav #radartechnology #AIalgorithms https://lnkd.in/dxv5W53H

The HCRI HADASSAH CANCER RESEARCH INSTITUTE, a major center in Israel for oncological research, has announced what it says is a significant breakthrough in personalized cancer care. The Jerusalem-based institute says its new MESiCA platform uses AI machine learning and natural language processing to identify the unique mutations in a patient’s DNA caused by the growth of cancer cells, revealing the cause of the disease and influencing the course of treatment chosen by oncologists. The project was led by Dr. Shai Rosenberg, the head of the Laboratory for Cancer Computational Biology, and Dr. Adar Yaacov, computational biology researcher at Hadassah University Medical Center in Jerusalem. “MESiCA has been validated in over 60,000 cancer samples, revealing crucial signatures linked to better survival rates and treatment responses,” said a statement from Yaacov and Rosenberg. #cancerresearch #cancerdetection #personalizedcancercare #AImachinelearning #naturallanguageprocessing #cancermutations #israelinnovation #cancertreatment #cancercare https://lnkd.in/djYfPuGU

Israeli cloud security startup Wiz has turned down a $23 billion acquisition offer from Google, the largest in the tech giant’s history. Wiz analyzes infrastructure hosted in public cloud services for risk factors that could allow hackers to gain control of assets and obtain sensitive customer data. In an email to staff obtained by Forbes, Wiz CEO Assaf Rappaport says that the company had decided to stick to its original target of consistent annual revenue of $1 billion and an eventual IPO of its own. “I know the last week has been intense, with the buzz about a potential acquisition. While we are flattered by offers we have received, we have chosen to continue on our path to building Wiz,” Rappaport said in the email. #cybersecurity #publiccloudservices #infrastructureanalysis #riskfactors #israelinnovation #israelitech #IPO https://lnkd.in/dDshzM_6

An estimated 225 million people around the world today wear a smartwatch, using it to keep track of text messages, emails and even how many steps they have taken. And now, thanks to software created by an Israeli startup and the little sensor on the device itself, smartwatch owners can also keep track of their emotional wellbeing, including stress levels, anxiety and amount of sleep they are getting. NeuroBrave co-founder and CEO Dror Talisman tells NoCamels that the startup’s NeuroSpeed AI analysis software takes data about the user’s blood flow gathered by the photoplethysmogram (PPG) sensor on the back of the smartwatch, and uses that to determine the heart rate. “Through that HRV we run our AI and statistics [analysis],” he says. “And we provide, for example, emotional stress levels, which is crucial to understanding chronic stress and anxiety and a lot of the mental health issues that we have today.” #mentalhealth #emotionalstresslevels #emotionalwellbeing #smartwatch #smartwatchsensor #anxietylevels #israelitech #israelinnovation #HRV https://lnkd.in/dr9dZn34

An Israeli startup has developed a non-surgical device to help prevent preterm births (PTB) – babies born before completing 37 weeks of gestation. PregnanTech says that 1 in 10 babies are born preterm, which translates to 15 million global births each year. And according to the World Health Organization, complications from preterm birth are the leading cause of death among children under the age of 5 years. The Lioness device developed by PregnanTech is a silicon ring that is placed around the cervix by a physician in what the company says is a quick, non-surgical procedure. #medtech #pregnany #pretermbirths #PTB #nonsurgicaldevice #pretermbaby #israelitech #israelinnovation #siliconring #cervix https://lnkd.in/dCNhzGJq

A Tel Aviv startup is applying the practices of Israeli healthcare to the US, with the objective of reducing poor cohesion within the American system, making it more accessible and bringing down costs for users. A lack of universal healthcare in the US, unlike most of the world, means that Americans must themselves navigate between healthcare providers such as doctors and hospitals, and the insurance companies who take care of the medical costs of its payees. Vim says it is bringing an end to this muddled, inefficient and expensive system, with a software platform that sits atop and integrates with the plethora of digital systems in use in the US. Vim Connect is designed to recreate the Israeli system, bringing together providers and insurers in one electronic platform – facilitating treatments, referrals and payments at point of care. “We always complain about the Israeli healthcare system,” Vim co-founder and CTO Asaf David tells NoCamels. “But then I started to learn about the US healthcare market, and I understood how much we should appreciate what we have here.” #healthcaresystem #accessiblehealthcare #healthcareproviders #onestopshop #isrealitech #israelinnovation #electronicplatform #pointofcare https://lnkd.in/dXqCcqbQ

https://lnkd.in/dzXAZexp Unfortunately, inefficient testing has led to the over-prescription of antibiotics, resulting in antimicrobial resistance (AMR), which is when bacteria become resistant to antibiotics. To tackle this issue, Israeli medical technology startup NanoSynex has developed a rapid personalized diagnostic test, which will enable doctors to prescribe the correct antibiotics at the moment they are needed most. “There is a clear issue of misuse and overuse of antibiotics, and one of the ways to address this crisis, other than developing new antibiotics, is to better use existing antibiotics, by boosting the development of rapid and reliable diagnostic solutions, which is what we are doing at NanoSynex,” Diane Abensur, CEO and co-founder of NanoSynex, tells NoCamels. “Our goal is to reduce mortality and morbidity rates by fighting superbugs with rapid and precise diagnostics testing and avoid going back to the pre-antibiotic era, since developing new antibiotics takes too long and bacteria develops resistance to new antibiotics at a much faster rate than the new antibiotic can be developed,” COO Michelle Heymann explains. #medtech #antibiotics #antibioticsresistant #antimicrobialresistance #AMR #diagnostictest #antibioticsprescription #diagnosticsolutions #israelinnovation #israelitech #bacteriaresistance https://lnkd.in/dzXAZexp
