I had the incredible honor of meeting Prof. Shimon Schocken during our recent What's Next meetup at NextSilicon. For 20 years, Shimon has been working on the nand2tetris project, inspiring millions of students with his teachings on how computers work—from designing gates and basic CPUs to creating compilers and even a Tetris game. His lessons ignited my own curiosity and passion for this field. At NextSilicon, I am building my dream with a 5nm chip to develop a groundbreaking compute architecture with 108 billion transistors. We are building everything on top of this, from compilers to software layers, all aimed at accelerating scientific progress. I feel incredibly fortunate to be part of this journey. It's been nearly a year since we announced our multi-year partnership with Sandia National Laboratories and Penguin Solutions as part of the Vanguard Advanced Architecture Prototype Program (AAPS). In 2024, our partnership achieved significant milestones, including the maturation of the programming model and software stack, benchmark and mini-app porting, and analysis and installation of the first commercial Generation 2 test system.    “Our partnership with NextSilicon and Penguin Solutions has allowed Sandia to make significant progress towards adding a novel technology to the tool chest in support of the National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA) Advanced Simulation and Computing (ASC) mission,” said James Laros III Distinguished Member of Technical Staff and Vanguard program lead.
