  • 🇮🇱 Israel's tech sector remains a powerhouse in 2024! Despite challenges, like a decrease in #VC_investments and mobilization during the recent conflict, the resilience of our startups shines through. In the first half of 2024 alone, private funding surged by 31% to $5.1 billion, with #cybersecurity leading the charge, securing 52% of investments. Major acquisitions, including NVIDIA's moves in #AI and Blackstone's stake in @Priority, underscore Israel's global tech prowess. Amidst uncertainty, efforts from the Israel Innovation Authority and private investors are pivotal. Together, we're ensuring our innovation ecosystem thrives. 💡🚀 #IsraeliTech #Cybersecurity #Innovation

  • In less than 2 minutes you have a cornea that can be transplanted in a person! Did you know that today, for every donated cornea there are 70 people in the world that will not receive it and eventually go blind. This is where “Precise Bio” comes in. An Israeli startup that fabricates human tissue in the field of ophthalmology. They print biological materials in very high viability. Working hand in hand with physicians from the early stages of development all the way to the clinical trials to provide a tissue that is easy to transplant and use by the physicians. Precise Bio is also the embodiment of #Bio_Convergence as it employs biologists with other disciplines including chemists, engineers, software developers and physicists, all working together to create the perfect tissue. The platform that Precise Bio created will eventually enable them to print any tissue needed. Today it’s cornea cells but in the future, it can be a pumping heart, kidney or any other damaged tissue. For Precise Bio, the sky is the limit. Click the image to learn more about Precise Bio. Hungry way before lunchtime? we can't blame you, food makes the world go round 😋 But how do we deal with traditional food manufacturing processes that are harmful to the environment and to the health of both humans and animals? Check out how the genius Israeli food-tech addresses two foody favourites: Remilk uses micro-organisms in the form of yeast to produce milk protein. This solution is intended to enhance the efficiency of the protein production and to meet the needs of the world’s growing population without having to rely on animals. 🐄 🥛 The practice is based on bio-convergence – a combination of biology, computation, and engineering, including extensive use of AI 👨🔬 👩🔬 Now it's no secret that people like honey – but its production depends on two things of which there is currently a shortage: bees and flowers. So what to do? 🐝 🌺 Enter Bee-io Honey Ltd : the company has developed an innovative technology that produces honey for human consumption without bees, with the aim of introducing sustainable honey that is beneficial to both humans and bees. Bee-io Honey currently produces six types of honey in different flavours – all produced locally without the need to import or set up hives. In addition to all the environmental and health advantages, the cultured honey has proven, already in the pilot stage, to be competitive in price with natural honey. 🍯 https://lnkd.in/dVrbWJKT

  • Having pangs of conscience when taking another plastic bag at the supermarket? 🛍 And what about the persisting water-treatment challenge? 😩 Enter the power of the sea(weed)! 🔱 🌊 Here are two Israeli bio-convergence companies that provide green clean water: Biotic strives to replace polluting fossil plastics with a biological polymer, using seaweed as feedstock and BioCastle that developed a miniature filter which enables to clean contaminated water quickly and efficiently. The technology sounds simple: extract the sugars that exist in fresh seaweed used here in Israel and feed them into self-manufactured tanks. Micro-organisms digest the sugar and grow a polymer inside their cell that serves as an energy bank for them. Biotic then harvests the micro-organisms from the tanks and extracting the polymer  🦠 Treating wastewater is one of mankind’s most significant challenges, with wastewater treatment plants consuming high quantities of energy, chemicals, and extensive areas for pooling, delivery, and operation by professional manpower 👷♂️ 👷♀️ This is where BioCastle Water Technologies Ltd. enters the picture. Their patented Small Bioreactor Platform (SBP) technology provides a solution for this problem via a membrane that creates a partition with holes that are small enough not to allow the bacteria to escape the capsule and to prevent predators from penetrating it, but big enough so that the contaminants in the water can go in and out. https://lnkd.in/dYuxFU89

What if we told you the very fibre, the building blocks of everything around us are about to change? Would you believe in biological materials strong enough to support the office you're sitting in?🤯 Farsighted vision based on bio-convergence is driving two Israeli companies towards the development of innovative materials 🔭 Seevix Material Sciences has developed a fiber inspired by spiderwebs - considered the ‘Holy Grail’ of the materials world. It’s not the strongest material or the most elastic – but its combination of the two qualities is ideal for the capacity to absorb energy 🕸 💪 The process involves the capability to insert the unique spiderweb-based genetic code into a bacteria micro-organism and to teach it how to produce the desired raw material. The resultant proteins self-assemble as nanofibers, which coalesce into a kind of small sponge with a diameter of half a micron. Enzymit designs and builds enzymes, biological nanomachines capable of creating any material 🧱🧱 The company continues to develop a technological platform and computing capabilities, via algorithms that design new proteins. Imagine plastic based on sugar or even CO2, instead of oil, this means limitless supply of raw material that is also biodegradable ♻ This stellar achievement was driven by the aspiration to create materials in a process that is better, cheaper, and more efficient than what is possible using chemical production – the predominant form of production in the modern world. https://lnkd.in/dQFzxJzM

  • How do we mitigate our era’s pressing macro-level problems? Think climate crisis, food shortage, and spiralling health costs: is there a technology out there that can address these daunting challenges? 🤔 The short answer is - yes, BUT! it can no longer be based on mono-disciplinary conceptions but rather, require multidisciplinary approaches that integrate the worlds of biology with the worlds of engineering. Enter bio-convergence, the Innovation Authority’s term for this groundbreaking new approach. 👷♂️ 🤝👩🔬 As early as 2019, the Innovation Authority started promoting bio-convergence initiatives, some of which appeared to many to be science fiction. The decision to invest in this field stemmed from two key insights: ✔ Israeli high-tech is condensing primarily into the worlds of software. ✔Israel possesses a significant asset in the form of high-quality researchers and scientists (with an emphasis on female researchers and scientists) in the fields of biology and life sciences. In April 2022 the “TELEM” forum (The National Infrastructure Forum for Research and Development) launched a five-year program with an initial budget of ILS 1.3 billion. The Authority and its partners are striving to establish technology incubators which combine the worlds of biology and engineering in academia and the defence sector. 👩🎓🔬 👨🎓 With investments between ILS 100-150 million each year in bio-convergence and supporting approximately 70 Israeli companies engaged in these technologies in the fields of food, climate, agriculture, and health, Israel sets itself to be a central player in tomorrow’s world of technology. 🚀

Looking for another Sci-Fi show to binge? Look no further! Meet two Israeli biomedical companies that defy imagination with new technologies 👾 💡 Quris AI field of activity sounds like science fiction: a miniature human organ immersed in a small quantity of liquid within a small test tube. And not just any organ, but rather one that belongs to a specific person, something called an “organ-on-a-chip”. For example, if we are looking to develop an antidepressant, we grow a culture of brain cells in a petri dish. 🧠 🔬 In a world in which one of every ten people suffers from diabetes, one of every three is pre-diabetic, and where nine of every ten pre-diabetics are undiagnosed, it is reasonable to assume that QuLab Medical Ltd Medical’s initiative is relevant for you. QuLab engages in biomedical engineering which seeks to generate a revolution in preventing diabetes, early diagnosis, and management of the disease. All this is achieved with a tiny invasive patch that provides continuous access to metabolic data and enables one to make better and more informed personal medical decisions. 🏥 💊
