Your team is resisting change during a major shift. How can you lead them through it successfully?
When leading a team through change they are resistant to, I start by clearly explaining the "why" behind the change, connecting to the team's and organization's goals. When doing this I will also always explain what is NOT changing. I listen to and involve my team early in a change process, addressing their concerns with compassion. Depending on the scale of the change I will break it down into manageable steps with short-term wins to build momentum. It's imperative to lead by example, demonstrating commitment and positivity, and maintain open communication throughout. Finally, and most importantly I recognize and celebrate progress through out the change to reinforce and fuel positivity, ensuring the team feels heard and supported.

How do you navigate giving constructive feedback to an underperforming team member without demotivating them?
I believe the foundation of feedback as a leader needs to come from a place of compassion and a belief that you want what is best for the individual. I have also found that to truly motivate team members, you need to understand their unique values and root of their professional motivations. When giving constructive feedback, I will revert back to previous discussions around goals using the GROW framework. During feedback conversations I will spend a significant percentage of time on the reality of the situation in question so there is alignment with the team member. I'll also use the SBI framework (Situation, Behaviour, Impact) to frame the reality in an objective way where needed.

Your team is struggling with creativity and collaboration. How can you break through the barriers?
I often find creativity in teams can be best sparked through effective collaboration, and the foundation of great collaboration is trust. I encourage hosting regular inclusion conversation within your team, specifically aimed at creating safe spaces to discuss topics such as psychological safety. I've found that by creating this time and space with my team we have developed improved team openness and ways of working together, leading to each team member showing up as their unique self to contribute to creative and collaborative ideas that help to make our team more productive and successful.
