As of May 15th, the landscape for spouses and partners of General Employment Permit holders in Ireland has changed significantly. The Minister for Justice and Enterprise, Trade and Employment has introduced new regulations allowing eligible spouses and partners greater flexibility to join the workforce.   Here's what you need to know: 🔄 New Stamp 1G Permission: · Spouses and partners of General Employment Permit and Intra-Corporate Transferee Permit holders, who have applied for and been granted family reunification, will now be registered on a Stamp 1G permission instead of a Stamp 3 · This change enables them to take up employment without needing a separate employment permit. 🔄 Critical Skills Employment Permit and Researchers: · Spouses and partners of Critical Skills Employment Permit holders and Researchers on a Hosting Agreement with an existing Stamp 3 can now switch to a Stamp 1G. · This amendment allows them to work without additional permits. 🔄 Transition Period: ·If you currently hold an in-date Stamp 3 permission, there's no need to rush to the Registration Office. Simply use your existing Stamp 3 and a letter from the Department of Justice to prove your right to work during this transition period, effective until May 15, 2025. · After this date, you will need to renew your IRP card to Stamp 1G. New Pay Information in Ireland 💰 CSO Ireland have released new data showing that public and private sector pay is apparently levelling off, with Public-Private Pay Differential on average ranging from 0.9% to - 6.6%. I would say to read this with a bag of salt. Firstly, there is no standard or uniform econometric analysis method for identifying the public-private pay gap, so 4 different methods are used...impacting the range hugely (depending on which data set you could see a differential dropping from a starting point of 0.9% to -6.6%) Secondly, data reflects pay ranges during and post the Covid-19 Pandemic (from 2019 to 2022). So who is to say how accurately this actually reflects pay gaps. Finally, we have recently seen that the Public Services Committee of the Irish Congress of Trade Unions (ICTU) has ratified the new public sector pay agreement, paving the way for pay improvements worth 9.25% – with a further 1% available for local bargaining – for public sector workers between now and 2026. Unless I'm missing something, the Private Sector's largest employer (SME's) are not following suit with this any time soon!!!! If you're in the Private Sector and you or your staff are p*ssed off with pay, you're not alone. But there are many ways to skin a cat and negotiating on added conditions such as investment in professional development, additional annual leave down time, flexible or remote working, and/or opportunities for growth is something not as readily afforded to Public Sector workers.
