About us

We have nerd skills, but human personalities. Perfidious Albert is a small software development house based in Dublin. It was just Albert (aka Ruairi), but this year it has gotten a little larger. We are now a husband-and-wife team with a small team of contract staff that we have known for years. Between us we have a lot of experience working with and in small businesses. We work hard to create beautiful websites and functional software for small to medium business owners. We are extremely good at what we do, and we have left a lot of very happy clients in our wake. Talk to us.

Hey everyone, Laura here. I'm having a great time working on our latest project with a big online alcohol retailer. Today, I'm researching the latest and most popular cocktails of 2024. Some of them look absolutely amazing! The last cocktail I made at home was a Negroni 😎 using an incredible cocktail pack from Mitchell & Son Wine Merchants. Maybe not the perfect summer choice, but we are in Ireland. The pack contained only top-quality ingredients with an Irish gin of course. What's your go-to cocktail for summer 2024?

We started working with MythicalIreland.com on their e-commerce recently. We are mostly working on Klaviyo. Some stats... Email signups on their website are gone from 0 per week to 53 per week. Thanks to Laura McMenamy for that one as Ruairí Browne didn't want to use a website popup. Turns out they work very bloody well. Open rate increased from low 20% to consistently over 50% Click rate is up by 230% All markers on KPIs in Klaviyo gone from poor or good to excellent. We have only started. Want us to help your business? We are recruiting our next client at the moment. Gis a buzz.

I decided this summer to do some renovations on the interior and trim of my old VW van. I ordered lots of bits and pieces from various companies in the UK, France, and Germany. It has been an eye opening experience as an e-commerce specialist. I ordered a small bag of trim clips from a very large and well known car upholstery company. They sent me an email after ordering saying that I would receive another email with lead time and shipping details. After hearing nothing I emailed them a week later to be told the package was despatched by Royal Mail and they had no tracking details. I ordered campervan curtains from another company. They replied with an order number and that was that. Again I emailed a week later and was told that there is a 6 to 8 week lead time. I was not promised any further updates. I ordered a headlight surround from a website where the very poor photo showed the normally chrome object looking all normal and chrome. I ordered it and when it arrived it was painted with primer and not chrome at all. I complained and was told that was what I ordered and that was what I got. End of. My point is that we can talk about KPIs, conversion rates, marketing events, and everything else until the cows come home. But if your business has shit customer service and you couldn't be arsed getting the absolute basics right for your customers then it is a waste of time. Your customers before they order want a good photo, an honest description, realistic shipping time estimates, and clear contact details. When they order they want to know their order number, a VAT receipt, and if any delays in shipping are to be expected. Finally they want an email saying the order has been despatched and a tracking number is available. In the unlikely event there is an issue then just make it right. Especially in a business like classic car parts where the customer could easily spend 10k a year over a 3 or 4 year restoration project. Buck up and cop on if you want to run a good business and make money. It's not rocket science or even e-commerce science. That comes later. Actually if you use Shopify you would almost have to work hard to not get the above basics right as they are built into the platform. Do the simple stuff and start doing it today. Then when it starts to work (it will) call us. We will help you put the icing on your e-commerce cake.

Thinking Outside The Box I disinterestedly advised a colleague once to "think outside the box" after he shared a problem with me. His reply was "ah go and shite". I queried this slightly disrespectful tone with him and he had the following defence to offer. "The answer is always inside the box." In the years since I have come to realise that the man was and still is a genius. He was also correct. The answer is never outside the box. Inside the box is education, experience, and intuition. Outside the box is uncharted territory, half baked ideas, and inexperienced fools that know no better. Or, there is another theory (https://lnkd.in/dMUPxFg) that there is no box. Either way thinking outside the box is a meaningless concept that Perfidious Albert dislikes intensely. So if you want inside the box thinking that is proven, fast, economical, and efficient - then contact us.

We don't do that many static brochure sites but when one of our favourite local restaurants told us about the prices and silliness they were putting up with trying to get a new website we had to help. This took one day, does everything they want, and is a perfect one page info site. No drama, no trading online vouchers, no fancy CMS, no stress. We also set up the domain name, SSL cert, and email. That took 5 minutes. I am not sharing this because we want brochure website work. It's not our focus. I am sharing it as a way of putting it out there that a nice neat little website should take less than a day and cost what you would expect to pay a professional for a days work. Keep looking if that's not what's on offer. https://lnkd.in/e75RBqQZ
