About us
The Pharmaceutical Society of Ireland (PSI) protects the health and safety of the public by regulating pharmacists and pharmacies in Ireland. Is comhlacht poiblí é Cumann Cógaiseoirí na hÉireann (CCÉ), an rialtóir cógaisíochta, a bunaíodh faoin dlí chun sláinte, sábháilteacht agus folláine othar agus an phobail a chosaint trí chógaiseoirí agus cógaslanna in Éirinn a rialáil. As the pharmacy regulator we undertake a range of activities and we engage and work with different stakeholders to meet our core objective: to assure public trust in pharmacy through effective regulation. The PSI sets the standard for pharmacists’ education and training in Ireland and creates standards and supports to promote good professional practice in pharmacy. We register pharmacists, pharmaceutical assistants and pharmacies, carry out assurance and inspection activities of pharmacies, and take action when there is a concern about a pharmacist or a pharmacy, including when we receive a complaint from a member of the public. The PSI is an independent statutory body under the aegis of the Department of Health.

As we approach the end of our current strategy, we're excited to share our draft strategy for 2025-2028 for public consultation. This strategy, developed with the PSI Council, our leadership team, staff, and stakeholders, outlines our goals as the pharmacy regulator. We anticipate significant changes in the pharmacy sector, driven by the expected recommendations by the Department of Health’s Expert Taskforce to support the expansion of the role of Pharmacy in Ireland, the outcomes of our Workforce Intelligence Report, and digital health advancements in national and European digital and e-health initiatives. Our draft strategy focuses on three key proposed strategic objectives to assure public trust in pharmacy through effective regulation: 1. Regulate Pharmacists and Pharmacies to Deliver Essential and Expanded Pharmacy Services in the Healthcare System 2. Modernise our Regulatory Approach to Drive Safe Patient Outcomes in the Delivery of Pharmacy Care 3. Enhance and Align Our Organisation and People to Successfully Achieve Our Strategic Priorities and Core Responsibilities We invite you to participate in this public consultation.
