The PSI maintains registers for pharmacists, pharmaceutical assistants, and pharmacies, which play a vital role in supporting workforce planning for pharmacy in Ireland, in the interest of the public. With recent developments in train for pharmacy and the broader health system, it’s essential to have a clear understanding of the national pharmacy landscape. Accurate data and projections are key to meeting current and future healthcare needs. We’re currently asking registered pharmacists for help with information to support the accuracy and detail about the pharmacist register. A survey has been sent to pharmacists and more information can be read on our website: https://lnkd.in/edahq5ry #workforceplanning #pharmacy #healthsystem #publicinterest #dataaccuracy

Last week, our colleagues represented PSI at the 2024 CLEAR Annual Educational Conference, presenting on two key topics that highlight our work in pharmacy regulation in Ireland. 1️⃣ An Innovative Approach to Workforce Challenges – A Role for the Regulator? They discussed our efforts to address the ongoing healthcare workforce challenges, including the recent publication of the Workforce Intelligence Report, and emphasised the importance of a coordinated, multi-stakeholder approach. 2️⃣ Best Practice Approaches to Continuing Professional Development (CPD) and Continuing Competence – Challenges and Opportunities. This session focused on the evolution of the CPD system for pharmacists in Ireland, showcasing insights gained from an independent review, consultations, and international best practices. The event was a great opportunity to exchange knowledge and explore regulatory innovations to support the future of healthcare. #Healthcare #Pharmacy #WorkforceChallenges #Regulation #CPD #CLEAR2024 Council on Licensure, Enforcement and Regulation (CLEAR)

🌍 This #WorldPharmacistsDay, we highlight the vital role of pharmacists and their teams in meeting global health needs and mark the future expanded role for pharmacy in Ireland. #Pharmacists in Ireland provide expert advice, help to optimise use of medicines and deliver critical healthcare services like vaccinations. In the 2023/2024 flu campaign, 1 in 3 flu vaccines were administered in a community pharmacy. The planned expansion of the role of pharmacists recommended by the Expert Taskforce includes enabling pharmacists to prescribe as part of a common conditions service. This highlights the expertise and skills pharmacists can bring to an integrated healthcare system, offering public health benefit and preparing for future healthcare needs.
