What to ask candidates when they knock on your door… 🗣️ 💔Nearly 500 lives are lost to suicide each year in Ireland. Young people and men under 25 are at highest risk. Last year, Pieta answered 25,000 calls and 75,000 texts, spending over 3 million minutes having life-saving conversations. Yet, more needs to be done. Here's how you can help #MakeSuicidePreventionAPriority in this election. When a candidate knocks on your door, ask them these questions: 1. How will you improve support for people in our area struggling with self-harm, suicidal thoughts, or the loss of a loved one? 2. Will you commit to multi-annual funding for self-harm and suicide prevention? How does your party plan to achieve this? 3. Will you review Pieta’s recommendations for the next government? (Find them on Pieta’s website https://bit.ly/48ClkDN) With your support, we can make sure self-harm and suicide prevention is a priority. #GoVote #GeneralElection #GE2024

We welcome the announcement by Minister Mary Butler TD today of an additional €1 million for suicide prevention services, including vital support for those bereaved by suicide across the country. This is a positive first step towards addressing the urgent need for more support for people affected by suicide. However, we know that much more work lies ahead to ensure that everyone can get the help they need, when they need it. At Pieta, we are committed to advocating for the comprehensive support and services that our communities deserve. And always remember, if you need us we’re here for you 24/7. 💜 #NoMoreSilence #MakeSuicidePreventionAPriority #Budget2025

The sun is shining at this year’s National Ploughing Association / Championships, and the Pieta team is here. ☀️ We’ve already met several Ministers, including Helen McEntee, Mary Lou McDonald, James Browne TD, Emer Higgins, Michelle O’Neill, Charlie McConalogue and Jack Chambers. The Ploughing Championships offer an excellent opportunity for us to spread our message: No More Silence. Make Suicide Prevention a Priority. It’s also an event to highlight and reinforce our partnership with the Irish Farmers Association' and remind rural communities that Pieta is here for anyone impacted by suicide or self-harm. We got the chance to have a great catch-up with IFA Deputy President, Alice Doyle. We’re dedicated to making our free, accessible support known far and wide. It’s been a great day so far and we’re at block 3 row 14 for the rest of the week, if you’re in the area, come and say hello. #Ploughing2024
