LGBT Ireland welcomes the decision by the College of Psychiatrists of Ireland, the Irish Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (IACP) and the Psychological Society of Ireland to sign a new Memorandum of Understanding on Conversion Therapy on the Island of Ireland, which was launched at Trinity College Dublin last Friday. The memo makes it clear that “conversion therapy in relation to gender identity and sexual orientation is unethical, potentially harmful and is not supported by evidence.” In signing the Memo, the three bodies renounce conversion therapy and commit to ending the practice in Ireland. Each body will now put together an action plan that will include training and ongoing professional development. LGBT Ireland was delighted to support this work in our capacity as the Chair of the Coalition to Ban Conversion Practices in Ireland. We look forward to this policy being reinforced by a legislative ban in the near future. Against a very dreary sky, Dublin absolutely came out to Shine for Pride on Saturday! Thanks to everyone who came out to support. We take this opportunity to thank our incredible volunteers, board members, staff team, funders, donors and all those who provide support to LGBT Ireland to help us deliver on our mission to make Ireland the best place in Europe to be LGBTQI 🏳️🌈🏳️⚧️ Thank you to the incredible Dublin LGBTQ Pride CLG who once again put on a festival hosting thousands of people without a hitch! Pride is so important for the LGBTQI community to come together to celebrate, remember and also to protest. Our community is deeply affected by hate speech and hate crime, we need to see effective hate speech and hate crime law enacted now.

Our LGBT Champions Programme Manager James O'Hagan explaining how the support from this year's Dublin Pride Run (by the Dublin Front Runners) will help LGBT Ireland in providing training for health and social care professionals in order to meet the needs of older LGBT people. Check out #DublinPrideRun page to find out how to donate.
In the final of our spotlight series on our 2024 Pride Run Charity Partners, hear from James O'Hagan of LGBT Ireland on their LGBT Champions Programme, which the proceeds of the Pride Run will go to support. According to LGBT Ireland, 40% of older members of the LGBT Community do not feel comfortable being out with their health and social care providers. The LGBT Champions Programme ensures the needs of older members of the LGBT Community are considered in the spaces and places that older people need to rely on for positive aging, by training health and social care professionals. Over 450 people have now donated to the Dublin Pride Run to support the work of our 3 amazing charity partners - thank you! If you would like to add yours, hit the "donate now" button at: www.priderun.ie 3 days to go! 7.30pm, Friday 21st June, Phoenix Park! We can't wait to see you all there! 🏃♀️🏳️🌈❤️🏳️⚧️🏃♂️ #DublinPrideRun #PrideMonth

What an incredible weekend - we are so grateful to our National LGBT Helpline partner SSE Airtricity for this innovative, impactful and creative initiative. The more awareness we can bring to our frontline services and to the challenges that remain for the LGBTQI community, the more people we can support 🫶 Thanks also to the Football Association of Ireland for their support & engagement 🤩 Together we will continue to spread the message that football is for everyone. ⚽️
🏳️🌈 For the second year in a row, SSE Airtricity proudly dedicated League of Ireland in-stadium sponsorship branding and activation to LGBT Ireland. The National LGBT Helpline was highlighted from the kick-off to the final whistle. Klair Neenan, MD of SSE Airtricity, commented: "I’m incredibly proud of this special LGBT Ireland takeover weekend. It aims to boost awareness of the National LGBT Ireland Helpline, building on last year's success, which saw a 53.5% increase in the Helpline’s chat services, a 12% increase in new web users, and a 21% increase in email requests. Standing loud and proud with our partners at LGBT Ireland and the League of Ireland, our message is that football is for everyone." Since 2022, SSE Airtricity has funded the National LGBT Helpline, helping 6,000 people with vital support services. Together we can make football a space where everyone feels welcomed. #SSEAirtricity #LOI #LOIW #lgbtqiaplus #inclusion Football Association of Ireland LGBT Ireland
