📌 The People of Lakeland Dairies 🎵 It's a safety dance...🎵 Meet Tom Stephenson - Group Health and Safety Manager at #LakelandDairies about his decade with the co-op, keeping people safe and being a snappy happy chappy. This month marks a decade since I joined the company, yet it feels like only yesterday that my journey in health and safety began. Our Health and Safety team is a dedicated group. We’re a close-knit team bound by a shared commitment to protecting our people. ⚠️ One of the challenges in this field is that success is often invisible. How do you measure accidents that never happened? Yet, that’s the true essence of our work—being proactive, anticipating risks, and putting measures in place to prevent incidents before they occur. Collaboration is essential in this process, and we hold regular meetings with our business partners to share insights, discuss what’s working, and learn from what isn’t. 🤝 What I find most rewarding about my role is knowing that our efforts can influence someone to take that extra moment to ensure their own safety. 📸 Outside of work, I find joy in photography, a passion I share with my wife. We love exploring the beauty of nature and capturing its many wonders through the lens. It’s a creative outlet that allows us to appreciate the world around us. Health and safety is undoubtedly challenging, but it’s also deeply rewarding. Lakeland Dairies joined students at schools across our catchment area in toasting the greatness of milk which is one of the healthiest and nutritious foods for anyone’s diet. As the old adage goes, ‘them bones, them bones need calcium’ so we are delighted to be taking a leadership role on this hugely important day – World School Milk Day 2024. Milk is a nutrient rich food and is a high source of calcium which helps create strong, healthy bones for children and adults of all ages. 📌 The People of Lakeland Dairies Meet the driving force shaping our people-first approach at Lakeland Dairies and who’s a real tri-er at various sports! Liz Shouldice is the Chief People Officer at Lakeland Dairies, bringing a wealth of experience and passion to her role. Inspired by Lakeland’s pivotal role in Ireland’s economy and our ambitious future strategy, Liz saw an opportunity to leverage her expertise to make a real impact. "Lakeland Dairies is a gem of a business with huge ambition and capability. Leading the multifaceted Human Resources department allows me to create and implement a people strategy that drives long-term business success," says Liz. In her role, Liz oversees Leadership, Organisational Development, Change Management, Diversity & Inclusion, Employee Engagement & Wellness, and Talent Development. Liz’s journey began with a degree in Mechanical Engineering, followed by a career that took her from IBM Microelectronics to Bord Gáis Eireann, and then to senior roles at DAA and the National Lottery. Her focus has always been on transforming businesses, building strong teams and cultures, and delivering a best-in-class service for employees. Outside of work, Liz is no stranger to challenges. She developed a passion for swimming and kayaking, eventually becoming a successful kayak racer on the Irish team winning many World Cup and National titles. More recently, she has taken up triathlons. She also completed her first full Ironman in Frankfurt in July 2023, followed by another just a few weeks ago! 🏆🐄 Lakeland Dairies Celebrates Pauric Greenan's Victory at the 2024 Baileys Irish Dairy Cow Competition 🏆🐄 We are thrilled to extend our heartfelt congratulations to our own Lakeland Dairies milk supplier Pauric Greenan, Greenlea Holstein and the Greenan family for winning the 2024 Diageo Baileys Irish Champion Dairy Cow. The Champion lady, Greenlea MG Rhapsody EX 96, was described by the judge as "a remarkable cow" and was crowned the champion at the 81st Virginia Show. The Greenan family, from Co Monaghan took home the top prize and the coveted Virginia Milk Products cup. This victory is a testament to their dedication and the exceptional quality of their herd. The Baileys competition, often referred to as the 'All-Ireland for dairy cows,' attracted breeders from across the island, showcasing some of the finest Holstein Friesian cows in the country. With impressive crowds in attendance, the event highlighted the best of the dairy sector, with competitors battling for various category awards, including best heifer in milk, best junior cow, and best protein award. Judged by Markus Mock from Germany, the competition saw beautiful black and white cows, groomed to perfection, parade in front of enthusiastic spectators. Minister for Rural and Community Development, Heather Humphreys, commended the competitors, stating that the Baileys Champion Cow competition remains a prestigious event that highlights the strength of Ireland's dairy sector. This week we welcomed journalists from Southeast Asia to our Bailieborough Lakeland Dairies site which produces butter and milk powder. The visit was facilitated by Bord Bia - The Irish Food Board and the EU dairy campaign. The group learned about the milk produced by our 3,200 family farms, the importance of Southeast Asia to Lakeland Dairies and finally sampled some of the quality ingredients we produce on the site.
