In last week's Agri Careers (Irish Farmers Journal), I spoke to two enterprises leading in climate action and sustainability who have just completed the Bord na Móna Accelerate Green Programme. James Goldsmith, Managing Director of Voltclub spoke about the changes to the grid and employment in rural Ireland over the next ten years. “What the renewable industry has effectively changed from a labour perspective is it has distributed the employment network. There are going to be more cables, panels and wind farms to maintain. You need to have boots on the ground and a distributed workforce. We will see more jobs going into the rural areas of Ireland subtly". Sandra Thompson, Co-founder of I/O Agri spoke about the benefits of doing the programme. “We needed to take time out of the company’s day-to-day operations and strategically place ourselves in the right position to grow our company into new markets, both nationally and internationally.
