We are delighted to announce the successful completion of our 5-week employee Pilates course. This program has been an excellent introduction to Pilates, and we certainly see the benefits of Pilates, especially for those of us confined to our desks. Well done to all employees who participated and embraced this challenge and a big thank you to our instructor Raquel from b-Well Pilates Reformer Pilates Balbriggan for guiding us through this process.

Are you a healthcare professional caring for older patients? If so, then read on. It can be difficult for older people to stay hydrated, especially in warmer weather and we know that dehydration is associated with increased morbidity and mortality rates[1]. So why not share this cooling recipe with your patients – with 313kcal and 8g of protein per serving, it packs quite the punch! [1] Reber E, Gomes F, Dähn IA, Vasiloglou MF, Stanga Z. Management of Dehydration in Patients Suffering Swallowing Difficulties. J Clin Med. 2019 Nov 8;8(11):1923. doi: 10.3390/jcm8111923. PMID: 31717441; PMCID: PMC6912295

Very insightful discussion with Niamh Rice, Director, Irish Society for Clinical Nutrition and Metabolism (IrSPEN) on RTE Morning Ireland discussing the findings of a recent survey on malnutrition rates found in patients on admission to hospital. IrSPEN last completed a survey of this nature in 2011 and it’s interesting to see how much has changed in Ireland in the last 13 years. From their research, IrSPEN have found that more than a third of patients are malnourished when being admitted to hospitals in Ireland, however in long stays or rehabilitation wards, the malnutrition rate was 21% compared to 36% on all other wards. Niamh Rice outlines in her discussion how the mandatory national screen and treatment protocols introduced in hospitals are working. To listen to this discussion, please click the link below.
