📢 EirGrid has awarded four contracts for renewable energy integration technologies, called synchronous condensers, which will provide ‘low carbon inertia services’ (LCIS), to support Ireland’s energy transition. ⚡🔌 This technology is vital for maintaining stability on the electricity grid while operating with higher levels of renewable energy 🌍 Earlier this year, EirGrid reduced the minimum number of large conventional fossil-fuelled generators that must operate on Ireland’s electricity grid at any one time from five to four. EirGrid & ESB Networks recently hosted the first session of a Customer and Industry Working Group, which focused on discussions around improvements in the delivery of contestable customer projects ⚡ The purpose of the working group is to work collectively with industry members on issues impacting the delivery of infrastructure projects, and what can be done to overcome these challenges. The event was attended by several industry stakeholders who contributed through sharing of experiences on recent project delivery constraints. This week, EirGrid joined a number of leading electricity transmission grid operators across Europe to sign a landmark Pact for Engagement at the PCI Energy Days policy conference in Brussels 🇪🇺 ⚡ The pact establishes a collective commitment to enhance citizen and community engagement in energy infrastructure projects, promoting trust, transparency, and inclusiveness as key pillars to support Europe’s energy transition and strengthen energy resilience. Under this Pact for Engagement, European grid operators, including TenneT (Netherlands) and Amprion GmbH have established a set of guiding principles, including early involvement, education and awareness, transparency, meaningful engagement and local benefit sharing. Eoin Kennedy, Head of Future Operations at EirGrid recently joined key stakeholders from across the electricity sector at a roundtable discussion, hosted by KPMG, about the importance of ensuring a secure and stable grid, as more renewable electricity comes onto the system⚡ Topics of discussion at the event included: 💡 How system services will be critically important to manage the resilience of the power system into the future. 🔌The importance of balanced portfolio of different technologies, including long duration energy storage. 🔋 Plans by EirGrid to further reduce the minimum number of conventional units that must operate on the grid at any one time, as well as plans to possibly increase the SNSP limit beyond 75%. 🌤️ EirGrid’s focus on ensuring security of supply when the wind is not blowing and the sun is not shining. ℹ️ Read more here: https://lnkd.in/eVEdrWWe #Renewables #ElectricityGrid KPMG
