Recent investigations by ITV News, the Local Government Association, and the County Councils Network reveal the alarming scale of the special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) crisis across the UK. Findings show nearly a third of parents have had to use legal means to secure appropriate education for their children. Over half of SEND children have had to take time out of school due to unmet needs, with some missing over a year of education. Councils are spending millions fighting these cases, often losing, and creating adversarial relationships with parents. The crisis is exacerbated by rising costs, with councils projected to spend £12 billion on SEND services by 2026, a significant increase from £4 billion a decade ago. Despite this, educational outcomes for SEND pupils have stagnated, prompting calls for urgent reform to create a more inclusive and sustainable system. Say what you want about ADHD. In fact, no don’t. 🛑 Studies show nearly 1 in 4 Women with ADHD have attempted suicide. And I dread to think of the impact that the current medication shortage is going to have on those heart breaking statistics. I’m so tired of the unsolicited opinions…labelling neurodiversity as a trend is so so damaging to our countries mental health agenda, nevermind the mainstream media trivialising how it feels to have masked your entire life. Next time you think about labelling something as ‘woke’ consider how a medication shortage is physically and mentally impacting thousands and thousands of neurodiverse people, while they try and navigate their ‘normal’ daily life. Like your mother used to say, if you’ve got nothing nice to say don’t say ANYTHING.   I’ve got my own ideas of how this government should take control of the diagnosis waiting times and create earlier interventions for neurodiverse people.
