ABM Ireland is proud to be a founding member of the Open Doors Initiative (ODI), one of our key Employability Partners. We recently celebrated the launch of the ODI’s 2023 Annual Report—a testament to the dedication and hard work of the Open Doors team and the inspiring achievements of the participants in the programme. Since its inception in 2018, the Open Doors Initiative has provided invaluable opportunities to some of the most marginalised members of our society. Through comprehensive training, education, employment, and entrepreneurship programmes, it has successfully guided over 100,000 individuals on their paths to employability. The launch event highlighted many success stories, from participants gaining employment to starting their own businesses. These achievements are not just milestones but also a source of inspiration for all of us committed to creating inclusive pathways to work. Congratulations to our Corporate Social Responsibility & Quality Manager, Verona Pentony, who was recently recognised by Fingal County Council for her outstanding contribution as a volunteer to the Special Olympics World Games Berlin 2023. Verona was presented with a medal by the then Mayor of Fingal, Cllr Adrian Henchy , in a special ceremony in the Fingal County Council chamber in Swords. Verona began volunteering with Special Olympics Ireland in June 2018 when ABM Ireland was a corporate charity partner. At the Ireland Games in 2018, ABM was a Silver Sponsor and Verona volunteered at the event for three days and was invited to present medals to the swimming and bowling winners. Since then, she has been a stalwart in Team Ireland’s Volunteer Programme, travelling with the Irish team to the World Games in Abu Dhabi and Berlin. For the 2023 Berlin Games, ABM was delighted to donate €2,000 to help make veteran Special Olympics Volunteer John Dunican’s lifetime dream come true – to volunteer at the World Games and support Special Olympics Ireland. We are all extremely proud of Verona and her dedication to volunteering for such a great organisation.

As part of our Pride celebrations this month, ABM colleagues across Ireland and the UK recently shared their thoughts on inclusion, support and acceptance in the workplace. ABM is committed to ensuring all team members feel valued and respected. The ABM Rainbow Group was set up to offer a safe space for team members from the LGBTQ community as well as allies to discuss areas of interest or concern, and ensure ABM continues to be a great place to work for everyone. We are very proud of the ABM Rainbow Group and the support the group has from the LGBTQ community in ABM.
