Walter Scott

Sir Walter Alva Scott, Baronet I, FRSE (15 Agustus 1771 – 21 September 1832) adalah seorang novelis sejarah, penyair, dan dramawan Skotlandia kenamaan pada abad ke-19.

Scott adalah penulis berbahasa Inggris pertama yang berhasil berkarier secara internasional pada masa hidupnya, dengan pembaca yang tersebar mulai dari Eropa hingga ke Australia, dan Amerika Utara. Novel dan puisi-puisinya masih dibaca hingga saat ini, dan sebagian besar karyanya diakui sebagai karya klasik yang ditulis dalam bahasa Inggris dan bahasa Skots. Karya terkenalnya antara lain Ivanhoe, Rob Roy, The Lady of the Lake, Waverley, The Heart of Midlothian, dan The Bride of Lammermoor.

Meskipun dikenal atas karya-karya dan keterlibatannya dalam dunia politik, Scott sebenarnya adalah seorang pengacara, hakim, dan ahli hukum profesional. Pada masa hidupnya, ia juga sempat bekerja sebagai Hakim Sheriff di Selkirkshire. Dalam dunia politik, Scott pernah menjabat sebagai anggota Tory dan aktif di Highland Society, serta menjabat sebagai Presiden Royal Society of Edinburgh pada tahun 1820–1832.
