For tech workers, the specter of layoffs continues to loom large, with good reason. According to Layoffs.fyi, an online tracker of job losses in the technology sector, 436 tech companies have laid off at least 137,050 employees so far this year. But that doesn’t necessarily indicate a lack of jobs for tech workers. Many tech companies are hiring, investing in their employees and growing their skill sets. In fact, top companies across all sectors—not only technology—are providing tech employees with positive job experiences, particularly in regard to training opportunities that incentivize employees to stay. We are proud to return as a platinum sponsor for the Global Trade Review (GTR) Asia held in Singapore, and to have the privilege of leading crucial dialogues alongside industry leaders, advancing our commitment to building a climate-smart trade ecosystem. Shinichiro Yamazaki, Head of Transaction Banking Asia Pacific, dissected the critical roles of how a treasury addresses market volatility and currency risk in today’s climate. His insight underscored the evolving synergy between the trade and treasury functions to optimize operations and support business resilience. Returning to our core mission to foster a sustainable future, David W Y Koh, Co-Head of Transaction Banking Asia Pacific, emphasized the banking sector’s role in crafting specific financial incentives designed to encourage suppliers to embrace sustainability. Finally, Yoshitaka Morita, Head of Global Trade Finance Asia Pacific, noted that agility and adaptation to the changes in trade dynamics and clients’ requirements will always create opportunities for banks, as he reflected on a roundtable that explored current themes and challenges in trade, export, and commodity finance. Participating in this year’s #GTRAsia was both invigorating and enlightening as we engaged in pivotal discussions set to redefine global supply chains. We remain dedicated to innovating and exploring new pathways to support our clients’ journey towards a sustainable future. Last photo courtesy of GTR Asia. #TeamSMBC

India recently reached a milestone of 200 gigawatts of non-fossil fuel capacity, and it aims to reach 500 GW by 2030. One key area to focus on to finance the growth of India’s clean power and manufacturing sector is its domestic manufacturing segment. With the localization of the latest technology, sector players are looking at scaling up, innovating structures, and exploring new sources of capital across the entire value chain. Rakhi Anand, Executive Director of Structured Finance Asia Pacific, spoke at the recent BNEF Summit in New Delhi, sharing insights into the potential challenges financiers could be facing in the near future and how we should prepare ourselves to mitigate the risks involved. #TeamSMBC #SustainableFinance
