Launch of the EU-ASEAN SCOPE-HE Programme: Empowering Future Leaders through Education and Industry Partnerships 🎓 📚 On July 17, 2024, the Dutch Embassy in Indonesia participated in the launch event of the EU-ASEAN Sustainable Connectivity Package—Higher Education Programme (SCOPE-HE). The event featured opening remarks from H.E. Dr. Kao Kim Hourn (ASEAN Secretary General), Ambassador Sujiro Seam (EU Ambassador to ASEAN), and Peter van Tuijl (Director of Nuffic Southeast Asia). A highlight of the event was a panel discussion on “Fostering EU-ASEAN Collaboration: Empowering Future Leaders through Education and Industry Partnerships in Southeast Asia.” This insightful conversation underscored the importance of collaboration in education and industry to empower future leaders in the region. The programme, funded by the EU with a commitment of 9.3 million euros, will run for four years until 2028 and is led by Nuffic (the Dutch organisation for internationalisation in education) and DAAD (the German Academic Exchange Service) as implementing organisations. The SCOPE-HE programme is built on three main pillars: the Academic Mobility Pillar, the University Network Pillar, and the Vocational Network Pillar. These pillars aim to enhance sustainable connectivity between the EU and ASEAN, fostering stronger ties and collaborative opportunities in higher education.

To mark the 10 years presence of the Customs Administration of the Netherlands in the region Southeast Asia, we organised an alumni event for Dutch alumni from Direktorat Jenderal Bea dan Cukai (DGCE) and Direktorat Jenderal Pajak Republik Indonesia (DG Tax). At the residence of the Dutch Embassy Indonesia 40 alumni attended the event. The event was kicked off with a warm welcome of Ambassador Lambert Grijns, director of the Directorate of International Affairs of DGCE ms. Anita Iskandar, Head Section of International Tax Agreement and Cooperation I of DG Tax mr. Satrio Adhi Wibowo and myself. After the welcome remarks the knowledge of the alumni was tested with a Kahoot quiz about the Netherlands. The rest of the event was a great opportunity to informally catch up with old friends, remember sweet memories but also to network and find new connections. And all of this over a nice dinner. Thank you #alumni for your enthusiasm to join this event and let’s stay connected! Specials thanks to my colleagues Lewis L , Lukas Rahmidin, Haekal Siraj and Novia Rakha who helped in organizing this great event!

The 10th Year Commemoration of MH17 On 17 July, we observe the 10th commemoration of the downing of Malaysia Airlines flight MH17 over eastern Ukraine. This tragic event took the lives of 283 passengers and 15 crew members, including 196 Dutch nationals. Every year on 17 July the MH17 Aviation Disaster Foundation organises a commemorative ceremony for the next of kin at the National MH17 Monument in Vijfhuizen. Our thoughts are with the families and friends of all 298 victims. In the aftermath, the Dutch government has focused on repatriation and identification of the victims, establishing the cause of the crash, and conducting a thorough investigation. The Netherlands remains committed to uncovering the truth, achieving justice, and holding those responsible to account. Significant steps have been taken in international legal proceedings this year, with hearings at the European Court of Human Rights and the Council of the International Civil Aviation Organization. As we remember this somber anniversary, we honor the memory of those lost and stand in solidarity with their loved ones. The ceremony will be shown live by NOS, the Dutch national broadcaster. A livestream of the ceremony can be viewed on www.mh17.org For more information: https://lnkd.in/gAmCppSR Photo credit by Minbuza #MH17

In March, the Dutch frigate HNLMS Tromp set off on an operation to patrol the world’s seas and took part in exercises with partners and allies. HNLMS Tromp also visited Tanjung Priok Port in Jakarta, Indonesia, in May. Ensuring safety at sea is important for the Netherlands and the entire international community. 🇳🇱🌏🛳️🌊 Read more about ‘Why Dutch navy ships travelling the world over?’: https://lnkd.in/gDijh3PC Video credit by Ministerie van Buitenlandse Zaken
