About us

Established in 1951, the International Organization for Migration (IOM) - the UN Migration Agency is the global lead agency on migration and works closely with governmental, intergovernmental and non-governmental partners. IOM Hungary presents its Q1 report on Econominc Inclusion of Refugee Women from Ukraine💁♀️✔ Key findings from the report include: 🔹 Over half of refugee women from Ukraine in Hungary (58%) were active in the labour market (58%), while 42 per cent were inactive. 🔹 Among active respondents, 58 per cent were employed and 42 per cent were unemployed but looking for employment. 🔹 The most common challenges faced by refugee women included: lack of contract (9%), long working hours (9%) and being underpaid (4%). 🙋♀️ The report also sheds light on the fact that only 9 per cent of refugee women from Ukraine were considered financially resilient (employed or self-employed, stayed in private housing, and able to cover an unexpected expense of 100 euros). In line with its global strategic objectives and aim of driving solutions to displacement, IOM Hungary remains steadfast in its commitment to supporting the economic inclusion of Ukrainian and third-country nationals (TCNs). #EconomicInclusion #EmpoweringWomen

#IOMThroughTheirEyes second issue, “Healing Power of Community” is out! ✨ … "I've been learning techniques in IOM’s mental health sessions that help me manage the stress what has been affecting my life greatly since the war began," Kristina shares. "But what's most valuable is being able to share this journey with people who understand my mental state. Through these sessions, I've found a supportive community," she adds with a smile. Kristina fled from Kharkiv to Budapest following the outbreak of the war. "The war at home and losing my job at the same time brought up intense emotions for me, leading me to seek help from Nataliia, an IOM MHPSS Specialist. She guided me out of that dark place. 🩺 Cardiac arrests pose a significant risk to both the Hungarian and Ukrainian populations. Immediate first aid, including basic life support (BLS), can save lives, and semi-automatic defibrillators (AEDs) provide an additional chance to survive. Thanks to the support of the U.S. Department of State: Bureau of Population, Refugees, and Migration (PRM), IOM Hungary is proud to deliver 12 AEDs and first aid kits to its operational partners. These essential items will be placed in hotspots frequently visited by refugees, including transit sites, shelters, community spaces, and service provision areas across Hungary. This initiative enhances safety and well-being for both refugees and host communities. 🙏 💙

IOM Hungary is committed to enhancing the social inclusion of refugees arriving from Ukraine. We believe it is crucial to provide opportunities for communities to connect and support each other.🫂💙 Recently, IOM Hungary organized a joint Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS) group session, bringing together beneficiaries from the border area and those staying in Budapest. During the group session, refugees had the chance to share their stories, find common ground, and connect with others facing similar challenges.💫 At IOM Hungary, we understand that no matter where life takes you, there are always people who will share your story and provide support.❤️🩹 🤝 U.S. Department of State - The Bureau of Population, Refugees, and Migration (PRM) #SocialInclusion #MHPSS #Community

At IOM Hungary, we recognize the significance of providing refugee individuals with supplies vital for their daily living, health, and education. This is an integral step in initiating the process of social inclusion. During our visit to the Dorkas Foundation in Debrecen, we delivered equipment necessary for establishing container schools, where the resident children can continue their education, which is essential for their development. Regular check-ins ensure that people’s needs are met. By engaging with the camp community, we gain insights into people’s evolving needs, helping us to deliver assistance effectively. 💙 #nfidistribution #socialinclusion #refugeeassistance 🤝 Auswärtiges Amt (Federal Foreign Office) Germany
